- amapola762 years agoSeasoned HotshotSo far, I don't think I've changed genetics at all, although to be fair I've only had a few born in-game. But I'm totally comfortable with the general idea of changing them slightly if something seems wildly off. Otherwise, I'll probably mostly leave them alone. (My neighborhoods are about to go through a baby boom when we get GT.)
Clothing and hairstyles get a complete overhaul, though. That being said, sometimes I take the clothes they start with as a hint about what their favorite color is, and I try to go with that theme for their new clothes. (Unless it's wildly unflattering: no mustard yellow for my sims, no matter how trendy it is.) Or if they have curly hair, I might leave it curly, but change to a different curly style. Basically, I try to leave in some sort of nod to the original style, even if I take it in a different direction.
Once we have quirks available, I figure I will deal with those in a similar way: remove any that seem wildly out of character (or any that end up being extremely overpowering), or add one if it fits some particular story I want to tell within that family, but otherwise leave them alone. - I edit until I’m satisfied with their looks. Nothing is off limits. I always test genetics in CAS with the parents (after applying cc) and if the born in game kids don’t come out looking like the CAS kids, I fix them.
- Reddestiny9212 years agoSeasoned VeteranI change everything that looks off rather freely unless I am doing an uglacy then that is mostly off limits until the Gen where all the features suddenly work together.
- Usually just hairstyle. I leave the clothing as is, it leads to very interesting kids
- Daephene12 years agoNew SpectatorRarely. I did have one sim who aged up with no lips (I put lipstick on to be sure and there was just a thin red line), so I edited her mouth. I edit some of the young premades if they age up weird but otherwise the only things I change are style choices for hair, clothes, eyebrows, accessories, tattoos, etc.
- paigeisin52 years agoNew SpectatorI've been pretty lucky with the genetics. I believe I have had just one male offspring that needed facial reconstruction once he aged up to a teen. His sister turned out gorgeous, so I have no idea what happened to him. When he had a son of his own, I was afraid the son would end up with the same problem. I was pleasantly surprised when he aged up to a teen and looked almost exactly like his handsome grandfather. :o
- Spots_ALot2 years agoNew SpectatorI only edit the things that we would normally "edit" in real life - clothes, hair etc. I like my sims to look like their unique selves, even if they don't have conventional good looks. I still love 'em!
- Kittybass2 years agoNew SpectatorUsually it's just a few things like hair and clothes. A lot of times they age up with wonky eyebrows so I'll fix those too. I don't usually touch their physical features unless they are missing their chins or have a really distorted body. Just a little tweak here and there. I don't think I've given anybody an extreme makeover.
- simsimsere2 years agoRising AdventurerI want to add that I love genetics in TS4. I've had a lot of sims born in game and really most of the time they are so loveable and unique. I'm really happy with this part of the game.
- LiELF2 years agoSeasoned AceIt depends. I try not to tweak them at all, save for clothing and maybe hair styles, but when they hit the teen years, sometimes something goes wrong in the chin/jaw area so I'll help them out a little and just tweak it to give it a little more definition.
With the clothes and hair, I usually go by what kind of behavior they had as a toddler, so like a Wild toddler will be an active, ornery child and probably a rebellious teen. So their style will morph accordingly unless their personality seems to change on its own. I like my Sims to tell me who they are. ?
