I normally plan 1 generation in advance. For example, what's their names, who are their potential spouses, where do they live, what is their traits, aspirations, careers (which I randomised in advance). As of now, I'm on my 4th generation (who are teens, children, & toddler) and has start planning for the 5th generation.
