- It's a tool to either resolve the fun need or to get certain moods for situations/jobs for me.
- I want to use it more, but there are always better options available for filling the fun need.
- I use it all the time, mainly because they can eat and watch TV at the same time without either being slowed down much.
- DreamprisonerSeasoned NoviceNo computers and no TV. Can't say I'd want to live in my game.
- icemanfreshSeasoned NewcomerIt's a good way to boost fun, but there are so many things to do in this game that watching TV is kind of ordinary by comparison.
- LoriTSpNew SpectatorI have removed all tv, stereo and virtual reality gaming rigs from my builds. They are far too distracted when any of these items are around. A few of my Sims are writers, gamers or programmers, so I generally have a computer in one of their bedrooms with the door locked to everyone but the household.
- Karababy52New SpectatorMy Sims only make salads or quick meals until they get their cooking skills up, which goes up nicely watching the cooking channel while eating said salads. Once they get a couple levels under their belt, I have them cloud/stargaze for inspiration before cooking anything, they can usually level up every time they cook and it's almost always excellent.
I like to have them watch movies as a family, with friends or alone for fun too. Other than the cooking show and movies, they don't watch much else. Kids will sometimes watch the Kids channel and if I have a comedian they'll watch the Comedy channel, sometimes they'll watch the News or Sports too. Until Seasons, that was pretty much it for the television.
Now I discovered Sims can watch the Fireplace channel without having to upgrade and it'll warm them up! I love that! :)
*Note - I don't play with full autonomy very often so there's no issues with my YA & up Sims watching the Kids channel or anything like that. They watch what I assign them to watch. :) - I only voted what I voted because there was no option for me. In the Sims 2&3 I used televisions every so often to simultaneously raise fun and cooking, but in The Sims 4 I haven't even really used one yet. I usually have them listen to music and paint, socialize, etc. I don't have a television in real life and find it strange that my sims don't get more entertainment from learning via books, especially bookworm sims. Is online learning a thing in the Sims 4? It should be; Google pratically raised me :D
- I started out having tvs in a lot of homes, but since I play on high autonomy, I've eventually taken them all away. I've put movie theaters in a lot of my saves, that way the family can go watch movies together and not constantly watching tv at home.

Lately I’ve been thinking of not giving my Sims TVs or computers because it’s always their go-to thing to do. However I feel like they’ll just play a lot of mobile games if I take those away lol
IMO, they will do the thing that's most fun. But you can kind of train them to do other things (not everything--I don't think they'll autonomously fish, for example). But if you have them oh, take a thoughtful shower, they'll gravitate toward painting. Or if you get them used to reading, they'll do that.
