How to "own/buy" a pet instead of just adopting?

So I've tired out the adopting a pet feature and its ok. But how do I own one? Is the only way through the create a sim cas mode? Or do we need to do something special like develop a friendship with t...

Every day the adoptable pets are spawned randomly, so I don't think it's bugged, they're not very imaginative with the names either so you will see duplicates of sorts like you saw.

When the pets are over, just click "adopt" on the one you'd like to keep (or two or all three).
