I agree that build mode has its limitations.
As for roofs clipping, there are almost always solutions for that. Using the arrows to trim eaves and adjusting the curve of the roof help a lot. And advanced roof mode can also help.
I recently learned that if you hold shift while applying a frieze, it'll only apply to a single wall instead of the entire room. That fixed a lot of issues for me.
As for the open stairs bug, that desperately needs to be fixed. The only existing workaround isn't exactly great due to the way build mode deals with "rooms".
And platforms are an absolute pain to build. Unless you keep reloading the lot, you'll end up being unable to build anything. Those need some serious tweaking. That said, fewer platforms mean better performance in live mode because routing doesn't work great with many platforms either.
Edit: here's a tutorial I wrote (ages ago) on building dormer windows without clipping. As far as I know it still works. https://mdianasims.tumblr.com/post/161657272445/how-to-build-dormers-without-roofs-clipping
I also have a tutorial about skylights on my blog.
Interestingly, the shift-frieze tip is in my signature. Lol. Yeah, I know most of the tricks now, but some things just aren’t doable given a particular floor plan. I have a lot of plans that call for railings, columns, stacked stairs with open banisters, open floors, and other things. Sometimes I get lucky and can work things so all the offending areas are centralized in the plan and avoid these issues, but too many times I’ve had to abandon the better plans.
