I can't build since the terrain manipulation was patched in. Any Suggestions?

The pressure is too high. I had been waiting for this feature since the game released and now that I have it, I don't seem to get any inspiration. I would start something and then get too caught up raising and lowering terrain, then no house convinces me...I can't seem to be able to build anymore.
Anyone else experiencing this or something similar? Any suggestions?
I want my building inspiration back :D

  • I had something similar after I first installed the patch. But I still had this cute little tudor revival build in the works and decided to use the terrain tool on its yard. I started out subtle though.

But I agree, it can be hard to find inspiration.

You can of course always trying browsing pictures on the internet. I often do that when I need build inspiration.
  • This new feature got me really hooked and motivated to build from scratch... which is something I never do since I usually go find stuff in the gallery instead lol. Well then thanks to that I was able build my 1st house ever haha, but it nearly took me 2 days to finish everything :D
  • Try something simple?

It’s not fantastic but the amount of time it took to sort a sloping driveway was insane. The terrain tools certainly have a steep learning curve!
  • I don't usually build, but I ended up remaking my favorite Sims 2 house that uses raised terrain as a sort of porch. The easy part is that I just had to copy the layout. Maybe you can start with an existing layout?
  • I was in the same boat, oh look new tools...........got nothing.

    Definitely try something simple.

I started with this, and just raised up the ground a little bit under the corner areas
  • Thanks for all your tips, guys!

I'm glad to hear that some of you also felt a bit blocked to begin with. I'll start as you say smaller and go from there. I need my building routine back, I love building in this game!
  • I did at first, but I really wanted to test out the terrain tools since its something I never experienced before....So I just started with building a hill and then i kind of just started building on top of that, then i manipulated the terrain to match. I kind of let the terrain determine my build. I think the outcome isn't too shabby...
