I can't figure out ROM - help!

hi I bought ROM a few months ago when it was on sale and really thought I would enjoy the magical aspects of it but I just dont get it - It seems like learning to be a witch/wizard will take weeks of IRL time to train and then learn all the spells - and I'm not a very patient person and would get really bored just having my sim read a book for hours on end (like the vampires had to do to progress)

Also it says on the blurb that they get a magical pet thing but I have created a witch in CAS and not had a pet attached to it?

I know a sim can either

Start out as a normal sim and ask a sage at the magic hq to start them off as magical or

Make them magical in CAS

I have read the instructions and help guides and it just seems that making a magical person and training them up will take sooooo long and I will get bored to bits I just know it - is there any cheats (not mods as I dont use them) to hurry this up? And where do the little pet things come from?

I would really appreciate any help as I am befuddled and bamboozled by this pack and I love the countryside and the magical bit is nice, the gameplay has eluded me so far and I would love to know what Ive got to do

Thank you

Thank you all for your replies - its just that I have a medical condition that causes brain fog and I can forget what I've done and try to get things done in one save so im ready to play next time I go in to that save - its not that I'm anxious about getting bored so much - its just that I won't remember what ive done and how to pick it up again which would leave me bored! All the other packs I have I love (I haven't got EL yet as I dont like the sound of the NAP's and being a control freak I would want to suspend them!!) Thank you again you've really helped me be more confident about playing a magical sim

In the bottom left corner of the talent tree tab is a spell book too. You can click that and see what spells and potions you've learned vs the ones you haven't yet. It's helpful for checking if you do forget between gaming sessions. :)
  • FYI There is a familiar downstairs, you just have to put it in your inventory. I have also gotten one in the mail a day or 2 after visiting the realm. I'm not sure if it is the visit or requesting a glimmer stick that triggers this.

It's hitting level 3 (adept?) in Spellcaster Experience, which you can do within a day if you time it right and do a lot of practicing and spellcasting.
  • Thank you for your help - my witch Lissa Day is now a fully fledged fully trained witch, and it was so easy thanks to all the help I got! And by befriending Simeon and flirting with him (honestly I have full autonomy but those two ...phew I had to just stand back and let them get on with it!!) their romance bars filled up soo quickly and then they were a couple, he follows her round all the time, I have never known a sim be so devoted to the other! Its very sweet.
