I can't seem to let my sims die, am I alone?

I rarely ever have active Sims die of old age. Once whichever child I plan on following to the next generation ages up to YA, I usually move them out and continue to play as them. It's kinda sad when you do find out their parents have died, but you get used to it when you play generationally.

One way to play generationally and not have to deal with Sims dying when they get older is to discover how fun it can be to intentionally kill Sims you know longer have much use for (or just feel the need to kill for the sake of driving the story along). It isn't fun to have the game snatch your aging Sims away from you against your will. It is fun to kill them when you decide you want to.

I'm in a similar boat. My Sims tend to die of old age, but I immediately have to get them to join the family again, because I'm terrified of having my ghosts be culled.

I have mods to prevent culling, but because I routinely delete townies I don't like anyway, I never actually see anybody get culled (anymore), so I don't know if the mods are working properly. It's a vicious circle.

I feel that way sometimes. I'll have a Sim that I've run out of story for and is just SOOOO boring, but I can't seem to let them go!

omg that is sooo me! lol I tend to just start a new game with a new sim rather than let them die!

I have one save with Sims that I cannot ever part with. Not happening.

But I also start new games and/or challenges where I don't mind the Sims dying.
Another way of always keeping your favourite Sims is to upload them to your gallery, so you can always re-enter them into any new game session.

Same here. I play with aging off so they only get older when I say so, lol. I've watched LPs where someone is playing with one family through a generation, and then the whole world around them gets old and dies off. That's not for me. :p

I play with aging off too. Takes forever for me to age my sims in general. The 4 main sims I created with the demo has grown children, and grandchildren yet I am not ready to make them elders yet and I love elders in sims 4. Just not ready yet....maybe before the year end I will. :'(

I have been playing the same Sim since Outdoor Retreat came out!!! He has NEVER been aged past an adult and each time I start over I use the SAME Sim and just edit the clothing or and whatever trait it was I wanted to test out. I have changed his eye a few times. They have always been green and have changed them when I found a better quality of CC eyes. In the past I would be able to get to at least the 5th generation before I started over. This time I just love this Sim too much. I made him with SO many people and characters that have meant something to me that I haven't been able to allow myself to let him age past a young adult yet. He has however aged from a child to a teen. I did use cheats to give him more of the CAS traits because I don't like that we can create a Sim with just three...LOL

In one save I do have him as my founder for a legacy challenge so in that save he will age up. Plus I do keep all versions of him in my library so I will forever have him..LOL He I also one of main charters in a story I have been working on.

Don't always do what I want him to do. Here I tried to get him to play the horse shoe game but he decided he wanted to be the only one dancing a neighborhood BBQ.

Usually I have no problem letting my sims go. I've played aging on since TS2 and it just feels natural to me that they eventually die and there will be new ones. Now I'm playing on short lifespan and using potions to keep my second generation around longer. The man of the founder couple came back the other night and painted an excellent pop art piece :D I've wanted to make a graveyard lot where I could move the tombstones, but it's kind of fun having them around even after they passed.
