I expected the Strangerville pack to cost $20 USD...

I anticipated the price of the Game Pack to be $20, since I'm in America and that's what the price has always been. And I'm pretty sure (not 100% sure because I was in the "TAKE MY MONEY" mode) that my in-game web-browser on the main menu of the game listed the price at $19.99. Apparently I was charged 19.99 EUROS (21.09 with taxes). Which works out as $24.72 in US dollars, according to PayPal.

I posted about it in the Answers HQ section, and about to contact an actual support person. But I wondered if anyone else paid more than expected? What can I anticipate? I don't want to do a full refund (especially if that will lose my savegame, I'm loving the pack) or if they do a partial refund of the difference? :/

I'm so stumped. I've bought almost all the SPs, GP's and EP's the exact same way and been charged the dollar amount. I live in America, all my accounts are american (including my paypal), my location settings are american, no proxies or anything.

Also hoping my bank doesn't charge me for a foreign transaction, awkward. :/

  • The live chat guy spent a long time trying to figure out my issue! We ran a tracer to figure out if my location was messed up, which it wasn't - I had a screencap of my receipt and it showed the price in displayed in USD, and the charge displayed in EUR. I don't know much about VPNs but if I had used one, wouldn't it have shown the price/charge as the same currency? I mean, if I was tricking Origin into thinking I was in Europe or whatever, it would have shown the price in Euros. Surely?

I signed up to EA/Origin 9 years ago, then I did move to the USA from England 7.5 years ago, but I have bought all the Sims 4 games and packs so far with no issues (including Laundry Day 2 weeks ago in dollars), but maybe my location settings goofed up this one time. But if it had, the price would have been reflected in pounds sterling, not Euros, surely?! So I still don't know lol.

I did eventually get refunded and then re-purchased the pack. Not ideal as now I've paid twice and the refund will take a couple of days (of course most places can take your money faster than they can give it back lol). He did set me up with 2-factor verification, which records my location for each log-in and lets me view it (maybe they still think I'm using a VPN lol... but why on earth would I?!)

Yeah with taxes game packs here are $27.29, though it may vary by province?
  • I paid 28,99$CAD. There are no taxes, it's the money exchange (on the Feb. 26th 1$USD was 1.32$CAD) and fees for the exchange.
  • I am in the United States, bought it yesterday, 19.99 no tax. I never have paid tax on a Sims game through Origin.
  • @QueenMercy Hey, may be you're right. It would be 5% federal tax. It's possible. I thought it was the exchange fees. I'll check that out on a next buy.
