Newsflash: I hope you are sitting down.... EA and every other business exists to make a profit. Every employee counts on that to be able to have jobs and make a living.
If you are not willing to pay the price, don't buy. EA isn't greedy. They are in business to make a profit. They will price what the market will pay. It's kinda how life works in the grown up world.
For me EA's actions do strike me as being that of a greedy business as opposed to a business that is just trying to make a profit, but then I've taken issue with their current model for TS4 because I really strongly disagree with the kind of DLC model that basically involves releasing content every month for a premium price. I just feel as though it is unnecessary and a bit scummy.
I'm not someone who expects anything for free, if I want it I will pay for it and I'm also not anti-DLC if it is price right and it isn't released too frequently (in other words, not released so often I might as well be paying a monthly subscription fee), but there's just something I really dislike about companies nudging me every month to spend money on an AAA game that already cost me £50. I just don't feel there's any need to do DLC like this and it has really put me off from buying more content for the game because it makes the game seem like a massive money pit as opposed to something I used to buy something for maybe twice a year.
I appreciate I might be the only person with this view, but it does come off as greedy to me.
Inna Minnit is right, EA is only in this for the profit and nothing more. And the video game industry is one of today's largest and most profitable industries in the world.
But not all successful game development companies act in the same way which is why EA (and a few others) stand out to me more as being greedy as opposed to just being a business.
Don't get me wrong, I accept it's a personal peeve of mine but I just can't help but look at companies like EA in that way due to it.
That's true too, some companies in this industry are greedy. I have known EA for a very long time, and knew them as Electronic Arts back in the old days. And the most likely reason why EA stands out to you like that is that EA was a greedy company back when they were just a young company. And this industry was just taking off back then. EA did not get to be one of the industry's biggest and richest companies by not being greedy in the beginning. But EA is now way to big, and to rich to care about that now. They don't need to because they, and their top competitor Activition are already there. So there's really no reason for EA to be greedy anymore.
