I'm Crying Over 'No Graveyards'

I'm sorry, this is such an obvious thing to include in a paranormal pack.
The way death is handled in TS4 is so poor: Townie ghosts that live on arbitrarily and more or less forever without any control from the player. When you play a save long enough, half the town is ghosts and it seems like no one ever bothered to think of that.

For those of us who remember TS3, the system there was easy and elegant. All the graves of sims who died went to an inventory-like manager at the mausoleum of the local cemetery. There, they could be deleted or placed as the player saw fit.

ALL I WANT is to be able to keep the ghosts of my previous generations around without feeling like I need to live in a house with six ghosts scaring people and breaking things all the time. Give me a cemetery where my current sims can go visit their great-great grandparents, or maybe even meet them at night.

  • Is anyone else upset by this?
  • Does anyone have a good solution?
  • How do you handle deaths of your main sims in your game?

I would love to try to set up a cemetery, but I'm worried the graves will disappear from a community lot if I leave them there-- does anyone know if this is true?
  • One correction, the mausoleums are above ground with stairs leading to the first underground level.

Lol, I read what I wrote and was like ??‍♀️.

I have 3 cemeteries, 1 in Newcrest, 1 in Forgotten Hollow, and 1 in Strangerville. They all are set as parks, they all have the haunted lot trait, and the vampire nexus lot trait and they all have a mausoleum in the first underground level with stairs leading to an underground burial chamber so I have plenty of room. My graves and urns don’t disappear with the park lot type other sims are there when my sims go there and sometimes they even are crying by a graveside which adds to the realism, the npc gardener shows up, so in my cannon they’re the caretaker. I generally place some of harvestable flowers and trees about so they have something to do.

I satisfy the lot requirements by placing a public restroom building in a back corner of the lot, or building a small bathroom in the mausoleum. I scatter benches about, and place a few chess tables around since it’s a quiet activity. For the toys required like the jungle gym etc, I personally don’t want them because they kill the vibe, so I go 2 levels underground build a small 4x4 basement with no stairs shrink them down with the [ key and put them there. This satisfies the lot requirement but sims can’t access them and they don’t ruin the aesthetic. If I don’t want chess tables above ground I put them here as well.

Then I decorate it using the headstones and urns from debug mode, statues from Vampires and Romantic Garden Stuff, fountains trees, bushes, flowers, and the decorative flowers in buy mode in vases. The Smooth Keeper fence from base game and the Window Shopper fence from Get To Work, and the two short wrought iron fences from base game make excellent fences around individual sections or plots. I use terrain paint to paint freshly turned graves.

When my sims die I take their urn/headstone there and place it, if a random sim dies on a public lot I have my sim put their urn/headstone in their inventory and take it there and place it and I have yet to have any of them disappear and so far I have yet to run out of space. If I need space or want a spot taken up by a headstone or urn I place from debug I either move them elsewhere or just delete them. I do the same with the graves of random townies after awhile too.

Do you strenghten yoir sims' connection to this world? And if so, your ghost sims wonder around forever? (please say yes  )
  • as aplayer of the sims i am quite happy that there is no graveyard i also use a mod to turn off ghost and make all my sims immortal

I really don't want playable Graveyards, it's just too much like real life.
I've lost my Grandparents, My Dad & a beloved Aunt. It's way too close to home for me.
  • I personally think they're trying to make the game more happy-happy fun-times, as if it isn't already excessively happy.
