What's your "Sim Count" in your save file?

Sorry for making this kind of topic again, but the previous topic I made may be too complicated to participate in. So, this time I ask as simply as possible.

[What's your "Sim Count" in your save file?]

You can check the number by looking at the bottom-right of the "Manage Household" window. This number isn't the real count because it counts only "My Household" sims. "Other Household" and "Hidden Household" didn't count.

For example

  • My "Sim Count" is 626.
  • But if check for total sims by MCCC, my total sims is 681.

*I moved almost sims (including townies, excluding university sims) to my household to protect them from culling.
**If you don't move premade and townies to my household, Sim Count will be only number of your active + played households.

  • It's been a while since I checked, but I would guess I have 740 active sims. I normally free spirits 1 year after a sim dies, so there might be a few ghosts but not many. 740 might include horses and some pets. Thanks for the heads up, I did not think about all those Ravenwood added ghosts might add a large number of extra sims that I will not play. Maybe wiser to stay off until I learn more about sims imits. I do believe the limit is way beyond 1000 if you have most packs - I read some where that the limit is lifted for each pack, but I've not seen this confirmed from EA.

I'm scared 👀 to go that high, but I want to.

How many households can the game have in favorites/ hearts before the game starts culling your favorites? ☺

I don't know how many hpuseholds I have, but I have all worlds except the StarWars (which is not residential anyway) and Ravenwood. 99,9% of the lots in all worlds are occupied, some community lots, but also some rental units. So the number of "hearted" households in my game must be way above 100. I play them all with story progression off, and never had any household being culled. I do not pay much attention to NPC households because I already have enough to fill say community lots. But in addition to my avtively played households, I frequently observe EA sims who I never played walking by as NPC or serving bars etc. Some of those have been around since the game was pretty new, but there are also many that I do not recognize.

Must add that I use no Mod that controls my population. With MCCC etc things might work differently.

PS: My computer is low-end and 8(?) years old, but eith a couple hundred GB free space on harddrive, which might matter. I think culling might be more active if the free space or RAM is lacking.

I am not sure if the 740 active sims you said are sims in "my household" or "played sims" but you have more than me anyway. I play aging-off, so no ghost from death.

I am now aware that Ravenwood may create more random ghosts to fill the neighborhood. But I hope that it won't create if there are enough existing ghosts in my save file. (I hope that it's not like a "bar regular" case where the game will create new random townies every time even though I have many sims already.)

As I said above, my save file started culling already. I have a mod to stop this. So I am curious if other people have the same limit or not. Or it depends on the size of the file. (My save file is currently 21 MB)

        See my reply above.

I'm out of town for 3 weeks, so I can't check the size of my save file and never did, but I'll try to remember checking it when I return :)  And if I'm brave enough - it's my only save file being played since 2014, so it might be about to explode ...

  • Why do I want to know?

    • No official update announcement about the "Population limit before auto-culling" for many years.
    • After my save file got "auto-culling" when my Sim Count reached 616, I worried that my population was too big already or not. I used the mod to disable culling, but I still worry when I add more sims in my save. (And if activate L&D, many more sims will be added)
    •  So, I want to know other players' cases because the last topic like this was in the old forum and no one talked about this again.

That's all. Thank you in advance to anyone who shares your population number. You can add more information about how you manage your population if you want to share. I love to read your playstyle as well.

  • I have 230 -60sims saved with a favorite heart in my sim bin. I'm not in game so I can't give an exact number. These are played sims in all of my saves.

They will not die until I allow them to. I can't rotate my gameplay fast enough to play these household therfore I stopped adding new sims to my favorites in the household bins

I pick and choose the household that I want to play and feature slowly after gameplay progression. They are all active in the game and I watch them as I play other household.

I like to play all the household that are in my favorites so it takes months to get to some of them. They are all still active in my gameplay.

I play an extremely slow game and save in order to play all 200+ household...probably never finish it..

MiataplayNever mind, the approximate number is enough.

If this didn't count sims in other households, you might be busy rotating. I played less than 10 families because I originally played with only one family.

The good thing is that you can play with a variety of characters. I saw your story about moving many families from San Myshuno temporarily too. It might be slow (and hard work) like you said but it would be heartwarming when think of them like real people. ^__^

I only moved 8 sims that live in that city and they are all happy and relocated. It wasn't difficult. 🙂

26 but it's a new save file. I'm not sure how many were in my old one.

Thank you! If the new game doesn't have many active households or moves premade sims to "My household", the number can be like this.

I always move every sim to my household to protect it from culling. So, even the new save will have over 200 if included premade sims.

Nearly 700 sims in my save.

The population growth has slowed down since 14 Mar 2023 because I don't like to take care of infants...although they're cute.

Since the infant update, I have played one infant in a townies family. I moved them into the lot when there was pregnancy because I wanted to try playing infant once. I still haven't completed every milestone, but I don't want to continue. Infants are cute but need too much management.
