I'm sooo gutted...

I just had to come on here and vent my frustration, sorry.

I'm currently playing the tournament challenge over on Carl's website. I'd finished getting my large perks for the retail lot and bought a vets clinic. I spent over 3 hours building it then sent my sims to sleep ready to open the clinic in the morning. Before I opened it I went into cas to set the uniforms, then when I exited cas it reset my game to the previous sim evening when they bought the lot. The clinic's totally gone - I can't believe I have to do it all over again.

I don't understand why that happened, and I'm devastated.
  • Did you save it through out the building of it? When I am building I sometimes save every 10-15 minutes until I am done - so there is never a chance to lose it. I have never lost anything by doing that. Saving is like instant in Sims 4 - and is a very good idea as it takes no time at all - well for me anyway - but having to start over does, and is just heart breaking. I learned way back in the very first Sims game - save and save often. LOL.

Still though- I'm so sorry you lost everything. Has to be heart breaking and I truly feel for you. Just remember to save a lot from now on so that does not happen again.

we can build it stronger better faster we have the technology :)
but really you can make it better then ever now
and it is awful when that happens we've all been there
  • Thank you both for your understanding and sympathy, when it happened I kind of gasped in shock loud enough for my husband and daughter to be concerned enough to ask me what was wrong. When I told them, they thought it was hilarious and couldn't feel my pain at all. They are definitely not simmers!

I do normally save regularly, but this challenge has made me play with things in Sims 4 that I haven't before. I've never played retail or dine out, and vets only a little in the maxis lot. This meant that I became so engrossed in what I was doing I totally forgot about saving.

Oh well, this time I think I'll save after every room.

It's situations like this that make me wonder why we still don't have an autosave feature.
  • Ouch, I totally feel for you! I'm really sorry you lost your lot. :( That always stinks and hurts the heart.

But hey, at least your computer didn't fry totally wiping your entire library of sims and lots that you hadn't uploaded to the Gallery yet. (Totally happened to me a few months ago, I still can't really get back into the game because of it. lol) I could have sworn I had them backed up on a thumb drive somewhere, but can't find the backups anywhere. T_T
  • When this happens I rage quit for a day or so. I've been there recently. Then you save like crazy when you start playing again... and then start to forget little by little. Anyway my condolences on your loss.

I have had a situation where the game seemed to mess up and took me back to a prior save. It's been a few years though. It was like it somehow ignored my last save. I don't know how to access it if you felt you did save at some point but there are simmers and others who know how to talk you through looking through your last save games in your game folder.

Actually the game did have auto-save when it came out - but it often messes up and I heard it sometimes overwrote our saves - so it is possible why they redid saving the sims4 a while back. Also when we had that you had to use Save As all the time and ended up with tons of the same game - Since the redo - you need to use just Save for it to save properly - as Save as again duplicates but at least there is no autosave to overwrite it any more - at least as far as I know.
I personally only use Save - no save as and no save and exit either - I use exit independently of the save button and never have an issue.

But autosave in this game was a bad idea. I lost quite a few games to that the first couple of years. So I am glad it's gone.

Yeah, but that wasn't a real autosave feature. It was more like 'auto-copy.' Lol. It didn't save our games periodically, all it did was make a copy of our current save. Pretty useless, actually. A real autosave feature would work well with options, such as disabling it, deciding how often it saves or whether it's allowed to overwrite. If autosave was only allowed to make a new save, there'd be no fear of losing games.
  • Like others have said, a key tip to living a gaming life from a young age.. Save all the frickin' time. I panic if I haven't saved my game in the last 10-15 minutes, it's so easy and quick on Sims too so it seems silly to procrastinate with it. Anyway, best of luck to you, we've all experienced that moment of horror when we lose something in-game, let's just say it's a character building experience, haha. o:)

Maybe this was what happened to me... actually it has been some years so it probably was. I lost weeks of game play :(. Sorry for the wrong info if that was the case.
