In defense of NordHaven

There are some simmers who seem upset that the world is European and want an African world. I am not against wanting more non-western or European worlds. I also not against simmers who requested it.I feel like a few things get overlooked.

  1. The world is diverse. The last four worlds that were  Sims 4 are as well. As in, they are worlds that we never have represented in Sims 4. Evan the American world ChestnutRidge was base on Arizona and a representative of a ranch culuture. That was not shown in Sims 4 before. The European worlds were based in Romania and the newer one is Nordhaven is base on Sweden.I think one thing that gets over look .Is that United States and Europe are big places. That has a lot places that underepersentated as well.
  2. Non-western worlds take time and effort.I feel like this gets overlook. But the sims team has to make sure to represent a world properly. They have to pick a pack that can fit that setting and won't overshadow the world. That also have gameplay and settings that represent the world properly.
  3. They have to do extensive reaseach.Especially if the continent and country is far way. That has different culuture.

What do you mean by your turn? I am a black myself. We have black representation in the sims.We just never got African world yet.Yes my point still stands it takes time and effort to repersersent a non western world properly.

I am sorry you have to wait .Non western world do take more time.Again I am not against of having African or Carribean world in Sims 4.

  • I feel like these worlds can be as diverse as you make them. In the real world you will find many different cultures living in Europe including many Africans. It would be amazing to have a genuine world inspired by Africa but really, I'm just happy the new world is not based on anything in the US.

Respectfully, I'm getting tired of the excuses people make for the Sims team re: lack of representation of Black cultures in the game. To your points:

    1. We recognize that Nordhaven is unlike the normal words they have given us in the past (i.e. white, suburban American worlds), but that doesn't mean it provides adequate representation for players of color (specifically Black players). And THAT is the issue we have. No, we have not gotten a Nordic world before, but we have gotten European-inspired worlds. In fact, we've gotten four European-inspired worlds that I can name off the top of my head (Henford-on-Bagley, Ravenwood, Windenburg and now Nordhaven), so it really stings to not have even ONE world based on a Black culture/predominately Black country.
    2. Yes, non-western worlds do take time & effort. It's been just over 10 years, that seems like plenty of time. And do they not already have a dedicated team of devs that do research for these worlds? So there goes your effort, too.
    3. No one expects a 1:1 recreation of Nigeria or Lagos or Jamaica or Atlanta. We're not asking for that. Just like Mt. Komorebi wasn't a 1:1 of Japan, the point is that it was close enough. That's all we're asking for, close enough. We want them to pick one country/culture or similar countries/cultures (like they did with Tomarang, which was "Southeast Asian-inspired") and respectfully explore and represent them. They are fully capable of doing this. They have chosen not to.

TO BE CLEAR: my gripe is not that they have given us a Nordic world. I'm happy for people that feel they've finally gotten their representation. I just want people to stop making excuses for why we've had to wait 10+ years for it to be our turn. There is no excuse.

I do like it. As it's with Nordic inspiration, it hits closer to my home. And as a Baltic, I have accepted that my home will never be represented, so I'm happy with those closer to it.

Except, well, the description of the dog plush toy in Cats and Dogs does name drop my country... It was a pleasant surprise to find.

I like European worlds because of their familiarity, but the other worlds fascinate me too. I don't know a lot about African cultures, so I'd be really interested in seeing them in The Sims too. There is a Moroccan themed build kit, but no Moroccan world.

Come to think of it, have we ever had an African world besides Al Simhara? I'd be time for another, yeah!

  • Apparently Maxis Europe is behind this pack, which could explain the Scandinavian-themed world. And that waffle maker.

  • I quite like the world. Would have been nice to have three neighbourhoods instead of just two, but I like it especially because we don't have that many city worlds. I am sure an African inspired world will come at some point with appropriate activities and skills. Then there will be some people moaning that it wasn't a world inspired by this or that country.

  • Personally my feel the worlds we've gotten lately are too much staging, too little lots, and in general boring. It's also getting to be so many that it's cluttering up the world map. I'd rather have fewer - but bigger - worlds with many more lots and customisable special venues. I love Windenburg for this reason. It's big, has several distinct neighborhoods, and their special lots can be edited.

    • Imagine if Copperdale had an editable lot in the middle of that pier where you could add an arcade, or bowling alley, or bar, or lounge, or restaurant, or... whatever else you wanted?
    • Or if Tomarang was more than just pretty, but actually had people, life and lots in the center of town? And big lots for big apartment buildins. And more lots in general?
    • Or if Tartosa had lots in that town center so you could add a small café or bistro? (Or you know, Mediterranean food on offer in a supposedly Mediterranean country)

Just to name a few worlds that could use some improvement. To be honest, at this point I wish for no world - if it can get me more gameplay. Does that mean that I would turn down a vibrant, big, lively world based on Paris, India, New Zeeland, Nairobi, Egypt or anywhere else... of course not. But give me more gameplay first, and please no more pretty but useless space.

  • Big news at noon! A handful of disgruntle Simmers are mad that what they wanted was not in the game! More at 2!

No need to defend it. This is something that's been a thing for years. I like various worlds, since having more properties or vacation destinations are always nice to have. Would like to see a African inspired world eventually, but the only thing I have complaints with any world we get is that it's TOO small as per usual with only 10 to 12 lots.

REALLLLLY wanna see big worlds again like Get Together or City Living.

  • Personally, I like beautiful European Worlds.  However, it would be nice to have an Ancient Egypt World for a change.
