Is “Save As” safe?

I can't see why it wouldn't be. Save As basically creates a brand new save.

The one thing you need to be cautious of: when you're saving via Save As, you're brought into the screen where you see all your previous saves. There IS the possibility of overwriting a previous one if you click on any of them by accident, or trying to figure out the name of one. Just type in a name for the save (for easier finding) and then click on the Save icon.

If you happen to hit Save and overwrite something previous, you can restore a previous version of that save (icon to the left of the play button will bring up previous versions of that save file).

I've used Save As ... well, maybe a little too much, when I thought i might go back to certain points in my main save. I still have them backed up and only recently cleared most of them out of the actual folder (30+ save spots is a little too much lol)

I use it at least once daily, then keep the previous save as a backup & delete the oldest one. Never had any problems with it.

I often use Save as... It's how I make back-up or I use it when making a video and I'm doing changes to a sim or household that I don't want to be permanent. I have tons of saved files in my game, but I include my year count in the names so I can easily delete those that were meant to be temporary saves.

I never had any trouble with this, but I recall there was some warning against "save and quit", but that might have been back in TS3 for a limited period... not sure.

I think that was mostly TS3. Something about having to force close the program? TS4 has also done this to me a few times, though I haven’t actually lost a save.

I typically use “save as” if I’m worried I won’t like an outcome or if I’m testing something. I usually give test saves dumb names like memes.

Okay, thanks you guys. Maybe I’m misremembering what I read before. Thanks for the tip about not clicking on another save, too @darrenfroggy — I’ll be sure to be careful of that. I’ll go ahead and use this feature with confidence now. ?

I believe the devs have said it's actually good to use 'save as' once in a while because in some small ways it helps to refresh a save from corruption and glitches. I tend to play the same saved games for years so I do a 'save as' once in a while and continue with the new file and eventually delete the old ones. But like people have said above, just make sure you name or number your saves in a way that helps you distinguish between them.

I find periodically using "save as" makes my game save faster. When it starts to take awhile for my game to just "save" I use save as. And as others mentioned, just rename your new save, personally, I use the surname of my main household and then a number, i.e. Campbell 01, 02, 03 etc.

Just for the record, you are remembering something that actually was an issue. I think it was a couple of years ago, there was a bug where 'save as' would overwrite a different random save. It has been fixed for a while now, but it was quite the annoyance and there were a lot of discussions on the forum about it back then.

Okay thanks @Netzspannung . That’s reassuring that I’m not going crazy and remembering things that didn’t happen, LOL.

And here I am having only ever used "Save As" XD
