I think it goes hand-in-hand with the problem of tone The Sims 4 has.
It tries really, really hard to appeal to children, even though The Sims is T for Teen.
In Australia, it's M15+. That implies a level of maturity that TS4 doesn't have.
It gets the 15+ rating automatically, because Sims can have sex, and Sims can die, and I assume the T rating is for a similar reason. Right off the bat, that's never going to be appropriate for young children, yet EA tries so, so hard to make the Sims act like cartoon characters.
This isn't Pokemon, where two Sims "play" with each other off-screen and then an egg appears, and nobody knows where the egg came from.
In The Sims, we see the Sims go under the covers, we see the shower steam up, we see them make come-hither motions at each other and then disappear into the wardrobe, while the door nearly gets knocked off its hinge while sexy bass guitars and saxophones play. That's adult. It's presented in a humorous way, but it's adult.
I mean even this forum is so geared towards children that we can't even call people j e r k s, which we all know is the worst thing you can possibly call someone!
You can't have it both ways, otherwise you end up with this odd tonal dissonance, where a game is too adult for children, but too childish for adults.
