Is gardening wonky?

Since the seasons patch and installing the expansion I have noticed that plants that are not on home lots or in the vicinity of it (in the area where you don't have to zone into that is) do not regrow their produce and are harvestable. For instance, in areas like the Science Center where the scientists work; the plants there do NOT produce any produce. And I have been going to work with my scientist for several days and I have even sent him alone in between. I could harvest that very first day but no harvest at all since then. And I don't mean the plants that are outside and out of seasons. I know they are not supposed to produce produce, the plants I mean are those that are inside.

At home, those that are in seasons and outside and those that are inside both on balcony and inside the greenhouse, produce just fine and are harvestable almost every day. But not at work. And I also have noticed that plants that are in areas that are visited occasionally do not always reproduce their produce.

Is this an intended feature or a bug? I have removed all my mods and custom careers, all my CC, removed that thumbnailcache file, emptied out the cache folders and done a repair. Is anyone else experiencing this or am I plumbed up the creek?

I also have problems with my Sims not having the ability to evolve their plants and they are at enough skill level to be able to do so.

  • That's odd as my gardening has been going fine. If I was you I would make a new sim and see if it is happening to them as it could be a glitch or you might have a bug that needs to be reported and unless you are fine with no plants growing produce then you might have to restart a new game. The same sort of thing happened to me but items kept reappearing in a sim inventory even after I sold them.

For your evolve plant problem, is your plant sparkling? As that tells you it is time to evolve it or it might be related to this glitch/bug. Again it might be an idea to try this out with a brand new sim in a new game and see if it happens there.
  • The evolve plants might be wonky, I was able to evolve a few plants and then they just stopped being ready to evolve for almost a whole two seasons (spring and summer)
  • Evolving takes FOREVER. But they broke the scientist career because plants only become harvestable if you're on the lot at 5am.
  • See what the tool tip says about what season they're harvestable in - could be you're in summer, say, and the plants are only harvestable in spring.
  • Plants no longer sparckle when they are ready to evolve you just need to hover over them and check out their level scale. When they have reached the max for their current level they are ready to evolve. Plants also seem to take longer to evolve the higher up they get and the rarer they are.

They only produce havestables at 5am so if you aren't on the lot/zone at 5am they won't have any havestables. You also need to be in the zone long enough for the plants to grow as it seems once you leave the zone they reset and have to grow all over again.

Splicing plants for rarer plants is also hard. I have two spliced plants to get birds of paradise and have yet to get them and it has been over 3 maybe 4 weeks. Apparently they do spawn but the have a low chances.

Edit: I don't think gardening is wonky I think it was made easier in aspects but harder in others. I would change it so that plants could produce havestables at 5am and 5pm but overall plants would be given a 24hr time limit on when they can be harvested again. That way players would have a chance during the day to get harvestable from plants out in the world but still only be able to harvest once a day.

If a plant is out of season it won't be able to evolve -- most plants will be back to a dirt clump so you can tell they're out of season, but the trees all stay the same. I've had no issue with evolving either my in season plants or all my flowers in my greenhouse room. Even my Bird of Paradise plants that never produce flowers have evolved to Magnificent quality. (Fortunately the plants at the Romance Festival were producing so I was able to finally get the Gardening collection finished, now I'm taking a break while working with a new couple.)
  • I have a similar problem since Seasons - no plants seem to be respawning in Granite falls. It used to be really easy to get the 'harvest 10 unidentified plants' and I've had my sim go back to granite falls a couple of times every season and there are no plants around to harvest in any season - what's going on? And is there a cheat or something to respawn them?
