I have had Greg ask my sim to be best friends, and soon after he asked her to be a girlfriend. They had a bit of a falling out, so did not propose, but I could see it possible. The only thing I don't like about the best friends option is that if you say no then the relationship takes a big negative impact and you have to apologize.
