Is it safe for me to turn on uncompressed sim textures?

It wasn't checked my default when I started the game but graphics settings were on ultra.
I haven't noticed lag yet but I'm worried it might mess up my comp if I leave it on? Like could it cause it to overheat or something?

this is part of my dxdiag that I think is relevant

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor (12 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8124MB RAM
Card name: Radeon RX 580 Series

Dedicated Memory: 8137 MB
  • I turned on uncompressed Sim textures on my previous potato pc just fine.
  • A Radeon RX 580 Series GPU isn't brilliant but is a solid last gen card that will have no problems with Sims 4 on Ultra with uncompressed graphics. Sims 4 is not graphically demanding. It's really only Intel integrated graphics that struggle with Sims 4. I've even run Sims4 on a 11 year old ATI Radeon HD 5670 card (way less than the updated recommended spec) on Ultra with uncompressed textures for a while after my NVidia GTX 960 died and it ran fine.

EDIT: For comparisons sake, a AMD Radeon RX 580 is better than a Nvidia GTX 960, but not as good as a Nvidia GTX 1060.

If I am not mistaken I would not turn on uncompressed Sims Textures if one's system is weak or meeting the minimum as it requires more processing.

the game auto defaulted the game to ultra, it just didn't check the uncompressed sim texture option on its own but i don't know if it's supposed to?

For me Sims 4 would default to an safe level and from there as I know the capabilities of my systems I would tailor it to how I feel my systems can handle it. I also do not place much faith in it but you can gauge for yourself how well and at what level you can safely play at. The 580 (which I still possess but do not use) for the Sims 4 is still an good card to use as it more than enough dedicated memory but today it takes more than just video memory alone to make it an great card. You can turn on uncompressed textures and see how well it runs, if your game starts to hiccup then turn it off.
