At first when you have only the default §18k and buy a starter it’s kinda difficult because I have to worry about decent furniture and being to build their skill. Once they move up the ranks of their jobs I tend to hold off on wasting but once they reach level 7+ it does get easier. Currently my sims have about §380k but to get rid of it I donate money to charities both real ones and scams(because that’s fun) and with seasons just give money away to families and sometimes to a close friend.
