They haven’t even bothered to put an affair storyline in, or a secret child or even a death. How fragile do they think we are? We can handle a bit of emotion and scandal
Tbf, maxis are drifting away from giving stories to premades and more towards you telling your own stories. it's a change in direction and marketing. I do miss fleshed out townies and premades, but I explained in another thread why I feel they got rid of them.

This won’t happen but I’d love The Sims franchise to start being marketed as a 15+ game with teen/adult concepts like violence, crime, scandals etc. Kids will always convince their parents to buy the game no matter the rating anyway. Make it less childish?
Yeah, uh, this is weird. In a some ways, The Sims 4 is pretty mature. For example, I find DU to be a much more 'natural' and realistic uni experience vs the older games, with various events going on in campus, and the ability to study from home, and pptions like "Woohooty text" which as far as I'm aware, was not in older games.
But the way sims handle things like cheating, break up, death, issues in family? Your house burning down, your kids being taken away? Just smile. Drama doesn't exist. The world is a happy place.
Compare that to The Sims 2 - Sims crying and breaking down over their partners cheating. A fall out meaning they'll come to your house and trash your garden. A creepy ex hanging around outside your house. Sims just crying in the middle of doing something because they remembered something tragic that happened in recent history. Though they also cried over roaches because it was considered a "bad" memory, which I always found... a little odd... but every game has some issues.
