Is there a way to decorate normal fireplaces?

You need to use cheats.

bb.moveobjects on - it lets you place objects on top of each other
ctrl+9 - raises object
ctrl+0 - lowers object
alt key - it lets you place object freely

I find it annoying that they gave us decorated or undecorated fireplaces... I mean, who would buy one fireplace for over the festive season and then replace it with a completely different one?

They ought to have given us plain ones with deco slots to hang the garlands.

We have slots on the mantlepiece, anything else would probably be a fire hazard.

i thought that that was half the fun, especially when it comes down to fireplaces

Isn't it a tad weird if none of the talented CC creator created a fireplace garland to be put on the top as a centerpuiece?

Yes, that tall brick one from Cats & Dogs is a perfect place to hang a wreath, wall art, a tv, the dried herbs from Seasons, Laundry Day, and Realm Of Magic, but can we? No. It’s so frustrating, just like wall shelves, they gave us the darn things and almost none of the clutter or decor fits on them. Why?

Sometimes, I will simply put those gorgeous lighted potted things on the mantle to help decorate. I use a medieval fireplace that I prefer over all the others. I do wish we could hang stockings and/or garland across the front of them, even so. Tried to find a picture, but I didn't take one of the fireplace, sadly — at least not decked out for Winterfest, at least. I just know you'll find it in the plant section under Decorations. It's potted and looks like a mini tree with branches. It lights up.

Here is the medieval fireplace, in Erik's Music Room: As you can see, it has lots of slots in it. But this is the regular non-holiday set up.

Ooo, I so love that fireplace. It's too bad it's only in a mod, I would love it to be in the actual Sims 4 game.

I normally don't play or decorate for Winterfest, so that's probably why I never googled those. But good to know they are out there, some day I will need them :)
