Is there any purpose to the color likes and dislikes?

I have read in several locations that the color choices don't affect sims. Is there any purpose to the color likes and dislikes?

When you ask sims their favorite colors, music etc you don't really get a reply back which is sad. No popup shows.

It happens when you ask it to someone from your household, however to any NPCs something must pop up (at least in my game).

Same here, always a popup if asked from non active.
  • I think it's fine not calculating all colors for each sim. Say it would be done every time a sim entered the room or lot, or every time my sim entered a new room. To some simmers it could result in fewer sims arriving the lot because of reduced game performance. It would be nifty for creative sims (but then again some RL creative persons don't care a lot about the color on their living room wall) or perhaps for kids or teens. Or for none.

In my game I had color preferences for a few years and I use it to help deciding their choices in BB and CAS. I made a routine where each sim has a preference for color, material and style/setting. For each of them they have a score from 1-6, and the medium range don't really matter a lot. I thought it would be fun when two sims with conflicting preferences move together, but I must be honest and admit I don't spend much time on interior upgrades etc, anyway ;) These notes in my spreadsheet is helping me to get to know the sim though. Some times it's ok that I can do stuff like this without the game needing to know ;)

Color is for Dream Home Decorator GP.

I figured it was, but I have gone through some of my sims outfits and changed them too…. Lol.

It literally only exists for the Interior Designer career, which makes it ridiculous that it's a basegame feature.

What I would've done is added Favourite Colour to DHD, and included "Favourite Food" to the basegame instead.

I'm guessing one of the issues is that colours such as black, white, grey, and brown, is that a lot of stuff are that colour that would be weird to complain about: black TVs, white toilets, grey metal fridges, and brown wooden furniture.

Maybe, but they could instead react to colours that they wear. A Sim who hates red might feel uncomfortable wearing a red t-shirt, or a Sim who likes black might feel confident for a few hours after they put on a little black dress.

Leave the coloured decor to the Interior Design career, but make coloured fashion a basegame feature--it's all based on the basegame's tag system, which has existed since 2014. Every object in the game--build/buy AND CAS, have colour tags. Why not use them?

At first I thought that since favorite colors are assigned to the different color categories in the game, they'd have some impact, like having a certain number of items in the room of that color may give the Sim a positive or a negative moodlet, but I guess they're not.

It would be nice to see some kind of reaction to colour, but I think that there would be a significant risk of happy colour moodlet overpowering the Sims other emotions, so I don't object to their choice.

Make it temporary. They walk into a red room, and get a scared moodlet for an hour (a little The Shining reference, lol) or maybe they go into a room with lots of green and get an uncomfortable "Yuck! Green!" moodlet for a couple of minutes. Make it an initial reaction that they quickly forget about, not a mood that effects them long-term.

Not ridiculous to be in the base game, it could be used for something different in the future.
  • I think color should have an effect on mood. Not super long like the lifestyles but something short term. I use the color likes and dislikes for fashion and home design to help establish personality. I usually give them 2 favorite colors and 2 least favorite colors. I usually make the favorite colors the color they look best in and the least favorite colors the colors they don't look good in. I do notice that some Sims will actually build friendship with your Sim faster if they have similar likes and don't as fast with Sims they don't. Music is the one I notice it the most with. Especially if you 'Enthuse' about it.
  • With the mod WonderfulWhims (not the nauhgty one), if you choose your liked and disliked colors, they override the attraction menu's choices on preferred clothing color. But you can save your like and dislike slots and go through the the attraction menu to choose those like you'd normally do. So it's really neither here nor there.

I miss the environment need - could've been a nice for the colour likes and dislikes to effect that.

I would also like the environment need back. Favourite colour would tie nicely and be useful. They get an extra buff for being around their favourite colour etc.

I would like reactions to colour on community lots and maybe affecting relationships if the other Sim is wearing too much of a disliked colour.

If colour preference really only affects DHD gigs, it should’ve remained with that pack.
