Is there something wrong with Chess Tables?
My sims will get an action to want to play chess but then the action gets stuck but the sim will do something else. It's happening to every sim in my household

Does it happen in other households or other saves? Or just that particular save?
Try running a game repair to see if that fixed the issue.
If that diesn’t fix it did you use MOO while placing the chess table? Is there any clutter (or lights) that might be blocking the action?
Do you have mods in the game? Are they completely up to date?
