I'm not a huge fan of those commercials, but they are very retro, that's how game advertising used to look - it wasn't a real footage or photo of the game a lot of the time, just a joke loosely connected to that game. Just look at old Nintendo ads, for example. And some of you would be REALLY outraged at how "false advertising" the ads for the oldest Sims games were.
(and the first trailer for The Sims 2, which seems to be rather universally loved on this forum, had a lot of stuff that was never in the game at all, let alone in the base game)
