Is this Mac a keeper??

Hi

First of all if this is in the wrong place, tell me and I’ll post it elsewhere!
I’m looking into buying a 2018 15” MacBook Pro 15, here are the specs:

i9-9880H
16GB Ram
512GB SSD
Radeon 560X 4G

From what I’ve found out so far this should be good to run the Sims 4 but what I’m wondering is; would I be able to run a good number of expansion packs/game packs/stuff packs on here without slowing it down dramatically or wrecking the game or the laptop altogether??

I’d really appreciate any insight. I don’t want to get a laptop for uni that won’t bring the sims 4 along with me :)
Thanks

  • Just to share that, I'm playing on MacAir (mid 2013). :D

I have all the GP, EP (except IL) & 9 SP. I have a high setting for the game as well. It's extremely lagging whenever I play on a larger lot or there are more than 4 Sims in one household. I would say that, the specs for the MacPro is far better than MacAir if you wish to play any game.

However, why don't you get a real gaming laptop or any Window machine which can handle it better than Mac? I'm planning to get myself a gaming laptop soon.
  • @xamira99 Thanks for ur input! Yeah still considering getting a gaming laptop but just can’t seem to tear myself away from Mac :D Especially for uni work!
Still thinking about it tho so thank u :)
  • Macs aren't really gaming machines. Apple designs them to be multi-purpose so they do a lot of things well but nothing great. If you're just going to game on it, might be better off getting a laptop thats designed for it.
  • @dfstone Thanks Yeah heard quite a few people saying that with most of the entry level ones, so thought this one could maybe do better but thanks for the insight. It’s main purpose will be for my university work, that’s why I’d prefer mac over windows :)
  • So I'm thinking about getting this refurbished laptop. It's windows 10. I wanna know if I can run sims 4 well on it. I am planning on getting some cc, but only like 1 or 2 gigs of it. I also have 8 mods in mind that I want. One more thing, keep in mind that don't think I will be installing a lot more games so I don't think I need a lot of storage. Here are the details...

Processor model: Intel 5th generation core i5-5300U

    Graphics: Intel HD graphics

    Storage: 480 GB

    Memory: 8 GB

Also is it good for all the packs??

In terms of specs, that's almost a top-of-the-line Macbook and is on-par with most high-end laptops. You will definitely be able to play Sims 4 on that without any issues. The only minor weak point is the GPU which isn't quite as powerful as what you'd get in a dedicated gaming laptop, but is still more than enough to play the Sims 4 on (its not a graphically intense game).

You could get a gaming laptop as others have suggested, but you're not going to get great battery life, it'll most likely be quite bulky, and you'll probably find that by comparison the trackpad and keyboard (which you use 100% of the time) won't be quite so nice. I think if you're using it for Uni then the Macbook is a much better all round choice.

I recommend that you create your own thread if possible, so it is easier to help you.

I recommend not gaming on any integrated Intel.

This is a better choice if you're on a budget...
