Base traits (the ones you pick when you're making your personality), can not conflict. I think you're also limited to 3 + the bonus trait.
You can add as many "Reward" traits as you want.
I had to remove one of my base traits before Foodie would apply.
traits.remove_trait Goofball
traits.equip_trait Foodie
