I've seen so many stories about TS2's emotional system, and I just keep thinking: WANT! I hate how I have to use cheats in order to make my Sims react properly, or long enough, to something bad that happened.
I know that this is the shamelessest shameless self-promotion of shamelessness that you could possibly do, but this thread (including all the comments) contains a ton of ideas about how the emotions system could be reworked.
It certainly doesn't cover every aspect, but the major one which is that you barely see those negative emotions, as there isn't anything supporting them while there are far more than enough Happy moodlets around all the time.
