I just watched it and I don‘t really see the point. We can already right click on the little photo in the bottom left to follow a sim with the camera.

I just watched it and I don‘t really see the point. We can already right click on the little photo in the bottom left to follow a sim with the camera.
What seems to be different is that you can do it with any sim in your relationship pannel. So you want the camera to follow -as a random example - the Creature Keeper from this pack while your sim is doing something less interesting to watch, like writing a book, you can focus and lock the camera on him instead of one of the sims you control.
Probably also useful for following chickens around the neighborhood. Or at least finding them.

I suspect this is probably the main reason why they added this new feature... to give you the ability to easily locate your chickens since they can freely wander around anywhere.
