Just out of curiosity what's your favourite sims game?

Hey, guys, I'm doing this for fun mainly because I'm curious as to the feedback I'll receive. I've decided to keep other consoles like PS2 and so on so forth out since We'll be here all day, so by all means enjoy. :)

My favourite is the sims 3 mainly because I grew up with it, I loved the open world aspect, I think the attention to detail was astounding, I loved how my teen sims could run away to friends houses for days on end and have the fun of running away from the curfew police. I loved the teen parties and how police could be called if your sims were being too noisy, The punishment system was my favourite I loved sneaking out the house.

School bus and carpools, I loved fighting against the clock to get my sims up and ready for work and school, It's a real challenge and how I could download/create new worlds, I never found myself bored with the sims 3 because there were so many ways to do the same things. If I'd done something one way there was another more fun way to do it.

To me, Create a style and open worlds really made me enjoy the Sims 3, it added so much character to the worlds I was playing in and in a way I miss it. I miss that the sims 4 is a crap game, I get bored of it so fast mainly because it lacks escapism, I miss fighting against the clock for the school bus/ carpool, I miss escaping from the curfew police. To me the sims 3 had consequences and that's what made it fun.

  • In sims 3 you didn't need as much CC because you could make things match in CAS. There was so much more content than sims 4, I never ran out of ideas.
  • I loved Sims 2. It was groundbreaking for its time and it was obvious that the game was a labor of love. There was so much detail and variety.

Having said that, TS3 catered to everything that I ever wanted in TS2. Namely, it allowed me to concentrate on a family rather than the whole town. I loved story progression (the parts that worked). I loved that Sims aged and that each generation had a different cast of characters who would be friends, lovers, or potential enemies.

I also loved that the world was open. Sometimes, I would just send Sims out into the world to find the lost little alcoves or the perfect overlook for a proposal or a spur of the moment teen rave. All I had to do was plop down a lot and bam, anything that I wanted, practically anywhere that I wanted. It was wonderful.

In addition, TS3 provided incredible flexibility in the game play. Due to the open world, I could play all Sims in a family at once, no down time. The first time that I clicked on a Sim, the camera swooped across the world, and it zoomed in on them doing there own thing, I was hooked. Sometimes, I would simply pan across the world to see what the other citizens were up to in the course of their day. Sims weren't just walking around on scripted routes. With TS3 each Sim had something to do and somewhere to be. TS3 worlds felt alive.

I also loved the flexibility of TS3. CASt was a game changer. I no longer needed to download recolors or to fiddle my way through making my own. I could have any color scheme that I wanted, in real time. Fantastic.

Build tools allowed me to create almost anything that my mind could imagine. I'd pick a place on a map, put down a lot, and start building something that would blend into the aesthetic of that particular location.

Create-a-World opened up a universe of possibilities. There were so many ridiculously talented world builders: RFlong7, Sim Realty, Coasterboi, and Awesims were among my very favorite. Those players did more for the landscape of TS3 than the designers would have ever been allowed to do. It was pure, unfettered creativity and attention to detail.

TS3 had a level of individuality, creativity, and control that has never been seen before or since. For me, that game was the gold standard. It was ahead of its time and a destination that I hope the series will aspire to visit again, especially since computational power is cheaper and more accessible now than ever. The Series should be seeking more depth and complexity, not less.

If the Sim interactions and animations had equaled the detail of TS2, TS3 wouldn't have been just my favorite Sims game. In nearly thirty years of games of all genres, TS3 would have been my favorite game, period.

  • TS1 was ground breaking and really dark and fun but I only felt in love with the franchise when TS2 came along.

TS2 felt like it was made with love. It had its flaws of course (like time!) but overall, I played it with a joy I don't have anymore.
It was quirky and had an immense amount of attention to detail. It was a massive change from its predecessor, it felt like the greatest upgrade a game could get. Life stages were revolutionary for me. The memory system, the fears and wants, the attraction system, the NPCs, etc
It had depth and was like the nicest homemade comfort food you can think of.

Then TS3 came and added open world, a huge step forward in the franchise, but lost its heart for me. I still played it like crazy but it felt more shallow and had a lot of bugs. To keep my analogy with food, TS3 was comfort food yes, but from a chain restaurant.

Lastly, we got TS4. It added a more intuitive Build mode (but full of restrictions) and a more fleshed out CAS (but no colour wheel). It didn't feel like it upgraded and improved anything massively like 2 and 3 did. I like it, but it's very shallow and has no charm. It also feels extremely limited in many ways. It is also comfort food to me, but from the supermarket, a ready meal that you heat up in the oven.

Oh boy! Now I am hungry! :D
  • There isn't any thinking about it for me, Sims 3 with it's open world, seasons, university, World Adventures, Island Paradise, cars, ect. Something that has become important to me is the stylist, home decorator, babysitting, and showtime careers(although I didn't use those careers much, it gave options for gameplay) Grocery stores , I can't believe that so much time has passed and we don't have these, but have loads of party places/activities. I loved S3 grocery store because if I didn't want to hunt for or grow harvestables and still wanted them, I just had to buy them. Real stores. 64x64 spaces all over and ability to put them there. Small pets like birds & reptiles and insects to collect. Shower woohoo. The potions for best friend and the shower in a cans that you can buy as many as you want, because I'm not one to want to work at those types of things, I would rather concentrate on gameplay. Ability to use boy/girl friend & fiancée in CAS as relationships instead of starting from ground zero. I also miss favorites(color, food, music) in CAS; weird that S4 is suppose to be about emotions, but they left this out. Ability to make a supernatural for any sim in my bin in CAS(huge disappointment when I had the sim I wanted to make a vampire and couldn't; not interested in going the long way around; they should've done it right to begin with.) More grim interactions. CEMETERY Infants held, laid down, interactions with items, ect. I miss the fish tank assortment and all the playground stuff for kids. I miss the real feeling of being in a world because I can look down and find sims and go where they are or watch my sim drive. The ability to make my sim run....

I will say that S4 excels in ease of getting in and out of game and CAS. Build has roofs and the ability to move houses and add more than one thing to a lot. Lot traits. <3 Ability to add/mess with townies instead of having to befriend ect in S3 just to get them in your house ect. <3 <3 <3 CAS- not having to take of accessories one by one and look for them. :p B) I really like the stores option in GTW as well as the careers. I like that Pets do not count toward the house count. I hate that sims cancel out what I want and that they put toddlers down from the highchairs or that toddlers can get down alone.

I'm sure there's more for both.
  • I like the sims 3 slightly better because of the open world and gameplay. I never bought pets so I did not expirience the bugs and lag that everyone seems to be talking avout. Still, I miss the graphics and CAS from sims 4, and the content and funny interactions from sims 2. All three games are good in their own way, but as a family player and storyteller, 3 is my favorite.
