This kid sounds like he ate some bad puffer fish so apparently that's something they can die from. They can also die from fire and by drowning. I personally have never killed a sim child but I have accidentally gotten taken away from me when I misclicked the end of the hunger by instead of the auto solve butt while using the UI Extensions Cheat Mod.
According to the wikia it says they can die by overheating from seasons
