Kids skills... Useless??

I've been trying to do the perfect sim challenge. Starting off with a sim from birth.
One thing I've found is that I find the building of kids skills is pretty much useless! It's supposed to somewhat speed up the skill building later on in life if you complete a kids aspiration, but I can't see it taking any real effect later on. Anything you build on in the child lifestage is just errased once aged up.
Because of this, I find doing anything with the kid life stage a little pointless, and end up just aging them up to teen so the work you do building their skills etc actually counts for something.
I remember in TS2 when you maxed toddler skills, it would bump up the childs skill when they age up. And the childs skills would do the same when they age to a teen.
So what I'm saying is, TS4 child skills etc, seem to be useless! Does anyone else feel the same way???
