Ah - 2nd thread I've seen like this. Might be worth checking out what Tech Support can do about it. No cheat using testingcheatsenabled_true to 'rename sim' is there? And, heck, in TS3, you could just go down to the Town Hall to rename playables..
I must have been bugged in Sims 3 because sometimes my sims had that option and sometimes they didn't. It was weird.
Not weird. Just a matter of time. You can only change their names after 9 am and before... 6 pm I think?- Kamikaze-X-GEN11 years agoNew Spectator

Um, at least in Germany A LOT of people keep their names after marrying. Perhaps this is not a bug but just going with modern times :D .
But you have at least the option to change them how you like it, you can even have double name like for example the husband lastname is Schmidt and the brides lastname is Mueller, they can choose which one they will take or they can even decide to have them both like this Mrs. Schmidt- Mueller.
You can even decide to take a whole new name if you want to, like they call them instead Mueller or Schimdt they call them now Fischer. Really if they add this in the Game it would be awesome. But no option given is just plain and simple plum (yeah i used plum).
Edit
I see this is already really old news lol....
Also btw i did already ask about this and they actually working on it, yes they are working on it, not look into it lol.
Read in this thread, we can close this case lol :p
http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/793267/ask-a-simguru-2pm-to-3pm-pst/p16 - I was extremely disappointed when I had my first wedding in the game only to find out that the wife's name didn't change. I am so far disappointed in the whole game! I like the overall look of TS4 and some of the new features, but I do not consider TS4 to be an improvement over TS3 what-so-ever!
I was mainly looking forward to having rotational play back in TS4 and being able to create long generations of families. But it almost defeats the purpose now that family trees are gone, last names don't change, and the memory system and biographies are gone. Why EA, WHY!?!? "EswenRaedself;12919860" wrote:

I have been playing the sims since it first came out as The Sims and though the graphics and loading are much better I have to admit I am extremely disappointed in the game play. They should have waited longer before releasing it and made it more complete. I feel like I am playing a Beta version or something. :/
The sad part is, the game was already pushed back once, it was originally supposed to be released in spring 2014.
OMG! That's so extreme. My game works fine but, gosh, you all have such troubles that, OMG, what a horror. I can't believe you all had to PAY for this rushed release that, whah?, actually works for most of us.
By count, there are 30 of you whining and only your lot seems to be the ones affected.
It is just like Ebola, come to think of it...
WTF is your problem? You've posted this same idea in two topics, both of which are about things that are actually universal. Names don't change on marriage for everyone's game, not just 30-odd people. The square-jaw, small-eye YA males are in everyone's game, not just the games of people who happen to have spoken up about the problem and helped narrow it down - and that was confirmed by developers."MsPhy;12557889" wrote:
There's a workaround. I can't remember right now if I had to have Origin online or not -- I think I had it off -- but anyway, here it is:
Ctrl-Shift-C
testingcheats true
cas.fulleditmode (edited to add this, left it out before, sorry)
Shift-Click on your Sim and choose "Modify in CAS"
This takes you to CAS, where you can change the name.
You can also change the household name by going to Manage World. There's no cheat involved in this one. Just choose the family and change the household name.
I was successful in changing the wife's name, the child's name, and the household name using these methods.
Yay!! This cheat actually worked now my newly married sims have the same surname"Lilmik552;12559223" wrote:

I've tried this but it said "Cannot edit and existing sim" or something like that..Had same affect while managing household.
After enabling full edit mode with the above cheat codes I went in to CAS by clicking on a dresser. Then I clicked on my sims name in the upper left hand corner. Was able to change my sims last name. No offense to women who don't take their spouses last name, but I prefer to. :)- Perhaps they should have a pop-up when sims get married or have children asking the player what their first and last name should be? Like how it asks what a baby's first name should be. That way people can do as they please. Call your kids Willabilly Flumpypants if it so pleases you. :)
- Is changing the last name in CAS the only option?

So far it's the only one I know...Sadly to this day I still have to rename my simmers who are newly wedded in game. It's a bit of a pain sometimes."Cinderellimouse;13145970" wrote:

I would love to have this option at least I wouldn't have to use a cheat every time a couples gets married. Let's hope the team realize some of us still are traditional.
