Let's talk about vampires in the sims 4?

Vampires game pack is a welcomed addition for us occult players, do you think vampires are needing a refresh ? Or do you think it's solid the way it is, also what kind of jobs do you give them ?, would you add to vampires? to give more options for them?

The pack is solid. A few bugfixes and oversights need addressing, but not many. I would like the "Influence Emotion" to include Fear, the "Sit" command to be fixed, and the answering of calls at night. Otherwise, perhaps more plasma options and a tweak of the amount of thirst the existing options replenish. Any further, and I fear what they'd end up breaking in the process.

As for jobs, I usually just end up giving them whatever suits their personalities/goals. A vampire is just an enhanced mortal with more banes and boons in my gameplay. If it's a day-job, they imbibe Sunlight Reversal drinks or have their umbrellas handy (if they're not already sunlight immune). If they can't go out in the day, they can do a freelance/wFH job, or undertake a non-traditional means of income accrual. Rarely do my vampires have night jobs, funnily enough. After all, they have to keep up appearances, and have lives to coordinate.
  • T for Teen is "generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language."

in Sims4, blood can't even be mentioned by name, or shown at all. This makes it hard to have credible vampires in the game and makes werewolves, even in Sims3, just furry people who howl.

I like vampires in sims 4 rather than if they weren't there at all, and thank goodness they don't sparkle like in Sims3 Supernatural. In sims4 they have lots of scope for the imagination, which is good because you'll need it.

The only way vampires in Sims4 are interesting is through the use of mods, and there are loads of them.

Otherwise they are just these paler, nice people who occasionally knock on your door at night, and stand outside all night unless you invite them in. If you invite them in, they play on your computer, or if you have none, read or watch TV while you go back to sleep, or else sit there being nice company (even if they are supposed to be evil) if you stay awake and engage them in conversation. Then they leave around 4 in the morning. And that's it, that's all. Nothing else to it.

So they depend 100% on the volunteer labor of modders to have any gameplay worth having, and the same can be said for maybe 70% of the game aside from Vampires.

One of my favorite vampires is a top ranked oracle in the criminal career, other vampires are often free lancers who work in their homes during daylight.

In addition to what everyone else has suggested I'd like to see more reaction from other sims when they see a vampire doing bad things. If a vampire drained someone and dropped them unconscious in middle of the dance floor you'd think there would be a stampede for the exits, or at least something more severe than a moment of panic and some reduction of relationship.

speaking of which i wish there was a way to determine if our sims dislike vampire activity or not
like my sims wife knows her husband is vampire she doesn't have to lose relationship everytime he hisses
in fact id like to argue she finds it kinda hot
  • I'd like them to give them some of their fangs back so to speak. I mean, the only way I got to have any vampire break-ins in my games was thanks to mods. I find this pretty asinine since it was a feature belonging to the Gamepack which was VERY clear about its' focus, yet they nerfed it because for some stupid reason people who don't want vampires in their game still insisted to buy the pack, not taking any responsibility for their own actions and then complaining about it when there's vampires being like vampires (therefore ruining the fun for the actual target audience).
Now it's like the only way you can even see vampires acting like vampires in your games is by playing them yourself or using mods. Therefore I'd love it if they would introduce settings (akin to Sims 3) in which you can control the presence of vampires. And that of any other occults. I think it'd the best solution for everyone. Even us occult lovers might have their favorites you know so options to control their presence would be highly appreciated.
Other than that I'm very satisfied with vampires and think their TS4 iteration is definitely the best. Absolutely in love with how you must pick weaknesses for them. Makes them much more interesting than spellcasters IMO. (Actually the only reason I got RoM was after I made sure there's mods to make them more challenging.)
  • Reading the other comments I agree with:
    - Integrating the new fear emotion in better by having sims be afraid and run away if a vampire attacks, and allowing vampires to control fear with the control emotion power. (I'd also love if there was a very small chance for sims to die of fright, but that's another discussion)
    - Building off sims fearing vampires, there should be fearful sentiments added so that if a sim witnesses a vampire attack, every time they see that vampire the automatically become afraid and run away.
    - The ability to determine how a sim reacts to vampires (or any occult) either by likes/dislikes or loves occult/hates occult traits. I'd prefer the likes/dislikes option because then we could choose for each type of occult.
  • I would love a Vampires refresh. It's my favourite pack, but I think it could be even better with a few additions, especially now we have a scared emotion. I really wish we had proper vampire hunters and other sims were scared of vampires. I always found it strange that sims instantly recognise vampires even when they are not in their dark form or using their powers and aren't bothered by them even if they are not friends. I love how versatile vampires are in TS4 as there are so many different interpretations, but I am also still hoping for hybrids to be supported. Vampires and witches are often related in folklore after all and I would love my vampire to be able to learn magic/alchemy without mods/cheats.

I like to choose careers for my vampires that suit their story, personality and powers/weaknesses. My main sim is a vampire, but he's a day walker so thankfully he doesn't have to worry about bursting into flames on his way to work! However, he does struggle with day phobia and aspires to be a good vampire, so a freelance career suits him perfectly. He can choose when and where he works and he doesn't have to be around other sims when he's thirsty, which makes his life a lot less stressful. No-one asks awkward questions either like why he hasn't aged a day in years. He also enjoys being creative so he genuinely enjoys being a freelance writer, as well as selling crafts on Plopsy as a side job/hobby. I am hoping for a freelance musician career though as music is his true calling and there is just something perfect about a vampire musician.
