LGR - Snowy Escape Review - Your Honest Opinions

So after the whole debacle with games crashing and more bugs popping up, I've decided to delay purchasing the new EP.
I watched LGR's review yesterday and I was slightly disappointed after his review.

I'm aware that he's starting to get tired of the sims franchise, as so are many others, but I still find his reviews to be honest.
I was really excited about this new EP and planned to purchase it for myself. But, after watching his review, I'm not sure if this game would be worth it... especially since most of the "game-play" is recycled from other EPs

For anyone who has actually played: How is the "re-play" value of the EP? Is it still enjoyable even after getting through "everything"?

Question: Is the lifestyles bit and rental lots tied to this game? Or have they been added to the base game during the update (I haven't played since my game kept crashing)

These are things I could imagine enhancing my fun, but I don't want to purchase a pack just for these.
I used to base packs off of their CAS, but after starting to use CC, I don't really care so much... I'm more after meaningful gameplay.

Universal rental lots were patched into the base game; lifestyles are expansion specific. However, the base game now has sentiments.

It definitely depends on you. I love SE, but I agree with LGR. It is very much a winter, Japanese inspired IL. Thing is, I love IL even if it is on the shallow side. IL and SE have two of my favorite worlds, so the content locked to them I will be able to access fairly easily. For me, especially, I wanted both an Asian and winter world so no matter how shallow all of it is, it is still straight off of my wishlist.

The real transcended gameplay is limited to the new career, traits and lifestyles, the latter of which I really enjoy though I feel there needs to be a lot more options. Festivals have alerts so you can attend them like the CL ones and the mountain excursion is an event you can plan.

Replayability depends very much on how much you use the world, lifestyles, new career, new skills, etc. The rental patch makes it easier to experience the worlds, but you still have to make the effort to incorporate it. Also, I dare say its bits and pieces of other packs make it more valuable if you have fewer packs. I will not have any problem using everything regularly, including a lot of the small details, so there are no regrets on my end. You, though? It just depends on how much the themes speak to you.

I dislike the winter aspect very much, but I really love the idea of the Japanese theme. I do enjoy the look of Sulani... but I could never get the careers to work properly (tasks were glitched and I couldn't complete things), so I stopped using that world. I rarely buy SPs (A huge gap between Tiny Living and Vintage Glamour. I've purchased most of the GPs (minus Jungle Adventure and Star Wars), and so far all of the EPs (minus Eco and this one).

So yeah, basically I'm 50/50 torn. I wish it wasn't a 40 dollar pack or I'd just buy it to see for myself...

Okay... would you be able to give me a run-down on what sentiments are? I basically live under a rock and rely on threads like these lol

It really has no replayability. I play a whims based gameplay (with mods that add whims now that the team decided to no longer add new ones and have whims turned off by default). The traits, while the can but used outside the pack are shallow. One aspiration is a meaningless tutorial type. The other adds a different way to get the high metabolism trait, besides bodybuilder. I just assume the team no longer really knows or cares about the gameplay value and is just into making a pretty backdrop.

The fact that I heard youtubers built the lots in the EP made me really lose faith... their own sims team didn't think they'd be able to do a good enough job to they just asked simmers to do it for them.
  • For Snowy Escape it all boils down to if you already like stuff from other packs that you wouldn't mind buying again. But I say wait for a sale so you'll only be half disappointed if you don't like it.
