The game needs imagination to play and lots of players don't seem to have it these days.
This game is getting very complicated, tying up one thing to another and I can understand why they are proceeding so slowly in Stuff and Game Packs. What other game can do what Maxis have to do?
I'm sorry, but I don't see the relevance of your argument.
The topic isn't about what the game can do, or whether it has competition. Its about... what are we getting in respect to price tags, (while also discussing at times) vs earlier sims iterations.
Who here on this thread is questioning, or debating the game giving us the ability to build a house, or manage a family?
Yes, the game can do a lot. Fair enough. How is that relevant to the existance of My first pet stuff vs cats and dogs. And if all the content of both packs could have been added to the game, wouldn't it have been a fair argument as well to just add it all with 1 pack, rather than 2?
It's all too relevant. What's "My first pet stuff" got to do with it? I bought that too and it added useful gameplay. I don't believe anyone here knows what goes into the making of this game and the complexities of it. How do you know the expense that comes with one stuff pack or even one interaction on it? Small packs anybody can add to the base game for a bit more play and they are cheap in my opinion.
Large expansion packs only, would come in at about USA $80+ or UK £60+ pounds by my reckoning. These days I pay £70+ for a basic pair of shoes.
I've got nearly 6,000 hours of gameplay out of Sims 4 for my money. How many hours does a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 give you before you give up or get tired of it and on to the next game?
@Simburian You are implying so many things I don't know where to start.
But you know about your most relevant comment.
I already went into why the "I got so many hours out of the game for the money" argument doesn't work.
Also leave other games out of this.
How I know the expense and effort? I don't know it exactly. But the Sims team aren't the only programers in the world. Other people who know about coding and making games can actually tell you how hard or easy some things are. And in general you can always try and compare stuff with previous Sims games.- CAPTAIN_NXR75 years agoLegend

I agree that other games have nothing to do with it.
I don’t agree with this: "I got so many hours out of the game for the money" argument doesn't work.
Some folks invest huge amounts of money in a hobby or on a thing they love. Games. Cars. Shoes. The hairdresser. Antiques. Luxury Beach Holidays. The Theater. Concerts. Merchandise. Vintage Dresses. Make-Up. Para-Gliding. Keeping Animals. Music. Fake Tans. Etc.
If they enjoy it, it’s worth every penny and sometimes more. For them. Because they enjoy it. Not anyone else. They do. The time they spend on that hobby and the enjoyment they get out of it, is worth more than the money they invested in it.
I‘m pretty sure that you’ve already spent way more money on something that I wouldn’t even look at. And the other way around. Unless we are the same person. Which we are not. But you feel that the money you spent on that something is worth every penny. Or even more perhaps. Meanwhile I’ve spent that same amount of money on something you may think is utterly ridiculous. And I don’t blame you. But it keeps me entertained, so I’m glad I invested in it.
There’s really no argument in what people like to spend their money on and how much they think it’s worth it for them. Unless it’s obviously hurting them (or others), but that’s a different conversation. - MidnightAura865 years agoSeasoned AceI agree with LGR’s reviews. I find it amusing that every single dlc release, LGR’s review always gets it own thread and it always goes the same way. Those who agree, those who don’t, and those that don’t agree without even having watched what LGR has to say.
LGR is one of the few influencers who who speak his mind. (It also I imagine hugely helps that he’s not one of the “valued” game changers so he is not biased in any way, shape or form.)
I’m not sure why the sims 3 store has come into it this discussion, yes it was overpriced but there’s a big difference, it wasn’t “essential” gameplay. *With the exception of the baby/toddler stuff. You could buy expansions and have a full experience with a ton of gameplay. I played for years without store content and I didn’t feel it was essential. It was like a side dish if you will but the sims 3 base game and expansions offered me more than enough game play as my main course.
When I started getting store content I got it for free through registration or expansion packs which gave you points, watching ads and a very generous community. The only money I paid was for two of the worlds.
Now with seventeen stuff packs, there’s no way to get those for free, it costs well over a hundred bucks just for stuff packs and most of the premium items isn’t “extra” game play but items we had previously got as part of a larger expansion. Now we pay for it. Yes we get more suspiciously similar hairstyles and clothes that are similar but for some reason people don’t mind that. This latest stuff pack should have been part of a bigger pack , as should tiny living have. There’s no excuse for that other than greed. But EA know they will get away with it because while they know the community will moan, they will moan whilst opening their wallets and that’s the bottom line for EA. And I don’t blame LGR for being fed up. I’ve played as long as he has and watching this series get nickel and dimed breaks my Simming heart. "SimmerGeorge;c-17598871" wrote:

The coding part of the game.... that's what gets me about this NK pack. Plopsy, for example, (IMO) is a great idea and addition to the game. When discussing the idea of it, I will likely defend it.
But the presentation of it.... I won't be so quick to defend that. The sims team did very little to hide the fact that they copied and pasted a 6 year old script. Plopsy is just the same store script we've seen from day 1. The same scripted popup for buying seeds and shopping at ROM shops. (as I mentioned in another thread about plopsy).
I would have thought, being that plopsy was a main selling point for the pack, that the sims team would have at least given it a different color. Maybe change the dimensions of the popup window a little. Given plopsy it's own look would have gone a long way. It would have made it more seemingly.... unique, different, new.
Now, i'm not going to pretend to know about coding. I don't make video games. But over the years of playing around with web/graphic design I did learn that the white background for plopsy is simply decided by the coded color of "FFFFFF". Which the sims team could have simply changed to "000000", or something else. The dimensions of the popup are just as simple to change when using ideas such as the "table" script.
My issue with Nifty Knitting isn't what was offered in the sense of ideas, but more so with how the ideas were presented/giving to us. Its seems like the sims team just said.... "ok, we'll just copy/paste this, and copy/paste that, and presto, new pack.... get the price tag.
I don't see evidence of much effort to make this pack feel new and unique. The ideas are new yes. But the presentation of these ideas. Not everything feels brand new."CAPTAIN_NXR7;c-17598913" wrote:

@CAPTAIN_NXR7 Again we are talking about the individual product here, not the investment you make in a hobby because that is very different and can't be compared.
But let's take a hobby for example. Let's take reading books. You might find a novel that you absolutely love and spend hundreds of hours reading it again and again and again. Just because you spent so much time on that book doesn't mean it justifies the novel costing for example 130$. It is still just a single book you are buying. If you buy a single novel for 130$ then the author will keep releasing more and more overpriced books.
I am not saying you shouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on your hobby of reading books and buying many different ones. That's your deal.
I am talking about the individual product that you are buying (ex. the price and quality of the individual book or individual pack)
And if course I am aware there are books that cost maybe even thousands of dollars but I think there should always be a noticable difference in quality (materials etc.) or you can't justify the purchase.
It's like buying Harry Potter chapter 1 for 20$ and buying Harry Potter chapter 2 for 40$. Or the other way around buying HP Chapter 1 for 20$ and then chapter 2 is suddenly divided into 2 parts and now you have to buy 2 books for 20$ just to read chapter 2. It's kinda the same thing.- CAPTAIN_NXR75 years agoLegend

Okay, now here's the thing. I personally find it hard to compare books to PC/Console games. Because there are often many
different publications of one book. The price of the book 'object' varies depending on the quality, size, print, whether it's
illustrated or not, hardcover, paperback, e-book, abridged, unabridged etc. Many different prices for one story.
With a game, you can buy the basic version or the delux version on either pc or console. One standard price. Delux being a
bit more expensive because it includes say, a Tiki bar. That's it. Very little choice.
I have spent a considerable amount of money on books. How did you know? :D
Let's try and compare a book novel series to DLC, but because making choices about content is subjective I will do it from my own POV.
I also spoiler coded it. Somehow it turned into an essay again and I don't want folks having to constantly scroll through my sh.ite. :#SpoilerI'm the kind of person who will look for a specific genre, depending on my mood, but I rarely read the Blurb on the back of the
book. I literally judge a book by it's cover and by reading the first page, because I hate spoilers. If I like the way it starts and the writing seems good, I will consider buying it. It's taking a risk. When I don't know anything about the novel, I've made the rule for myself that I will never spend over 20 Euros on a large hardcover or paperback and no more than 10 when it's a small paperback or in rare cases, a kindle version. Because, let's be realistic, these are today's standard prices of a book. 130 Euro? what kind of book is that? But wait...
The quality of the book object itself plays a huge role for me, it's a piece of art, maybe not to others, although I will always go for the better deal if there doesn't seem much difference in quality.
Part II is released.
If I didn't like the book, well, tough luck. I'll leave P2 on the shelves. If I loved P1, I'm quicker to invest more money on the
next release. This time I'll go out of my way to find a nice publication, because stuff needs to look good on my shelf. But wait, like you said,Part Two is split into two parts. Not only that, it's published as two different books and each book is much smaller than the first book, but they're both the same price as P1.
Do I now feel that the price is justified enough to get two pretty (thin) hardcovers for my shelf? Will I wait for a sale, or, if I'm very eager
to read the story, can I do with a paperback or e-book version because I don't want or can't spend that money right now? I've avoided every spoiler so I have no clue how the story will unfold. But at least I have a plethora of choices so I can make my decision based on that.
Say I'll buy the cheaper e-book version because I'm super broke but I want to read. And I find the story is really good. Well I'm the kind of nerd who will probably buy the best quality hardcover version out there at full price afterwards, because I just need it to look good on my shelf. Is there a really really cool 130 Euro version of that book that just takes my breath away? I will probably spend that money if the book had
the ability to fly. Or if it simply looks smashing on my shelf. Yes. I'm that kind of nerd.
With Game DLC....well, I will have to look at the content. Do some research. Is the full price justified? 10,20 & 40 Euro are
standard prices for 3 different tiers of DLC. That's ok with me.
But Content and content is two. I can find the stuff shown in a life stream really interesting. So I may buy it at full price (or wait for a sale).
Personally I can only tell if the price was worth the investment when I look at how much enjoyment I actually got out of that DLC. Like the book. Was it good in the end? Was it worth 10, 20, 40 Euros? For me it's an afterward thought.
I paid 40 euros for Get Famous. Hardly use most of the content. I think the celebrity system is very good. But I never use it. I usually get rid of all the celebrities and I can't stand Judith Ward. Poor woman. It's my least favorite pack.
I paid 20 for Jungle Adventure, but I enjoy digging in the dirt a lot more than being a celebrity. Yes, it probably says more about
me than the game, but that's just the thing. I might as well have spent 55 Euros on Jungle Adventures and 5 on Get Famous. Luckily It balances itself out. But that's how I feel about it. Maybe someone else doesn't and will call me dense. Digging in the dirt? Fool.
Of course I would be happier to pay 40 Euros on Jungle Adventure if it contained proper Quests and brain teasers like in TS3 WA.
But I don't have an archaeology and culture skill or a Jungle in WA. And I really like that.
Should quests and brain teasers have been part of the JA Gamepack? Yes! But hey, I still find myself enjoying the content of that pack regardless, even after many years. So after all that, am I happy I got it for the price I paid. Yes.

I disagree that respect needs to be earned. I believe it should be given to everyone and that everyone deserves to be respected.
They may be able to lose respect later, calling people braindead or dense would be a good way to lose that respect, but to start with everyone should be given it and having a different opinion or enjoying something many dislike would not in the slightest be a reason to lose respect for someone. I only lose respect for people who bully, name call, troll or act in another disrepectful manner themselves.- It's obvious some have difficulty forming an articulate argument thus the need to resort to name calling and denigration. Best to just ignore, report if necessary, and move on.
