Lifespans seem off

Anyone else notice that with "Normal lifespan" set - if you do university and wait to have your kids until after you graduate (which takes most of the young adult lifespan) that they die of old age before the kids become adults. Pregnant 3 day, Baby 3 day, Toddler 7 days, child 13 day and teen 14 days is 40 days between conception and adulthood. They only spend 48 days as an adult (24/24) and 10 days (average) as an elder. So if you have child day 1 when you age up to adult they are still 6 days from a teenager when their parents die.

It's almost impossible to get the family aspirations what require interaction with grandchildren or a child reaching the top of a career because my sims are long dead before their babies graduate high school. It's almost like you age out of young adult into a 45 year old. Even if you have your first kid right when you age up to young adult you only have 18 days left to live (on average) when the child ages up to young adult.

I use MCC Commander for story progression and there are all sorts of "Adopted Children" notices because if you have been an adult for more than 8 days when you decided to have a baby (of the mod decides) then you will be dead before your child turns into a teen. I have personally used the mode to increase the lifespan of the adult phase only (I like the others lengths) but it's still a big pet peevee of mine.

Especially given the fact that it pretty much takes the entire young adult lifespan to get through 4 years of university and the game gives an adult sim the same period of time to be alive. Before university it wasn't that big of a deal but with it I am stuck choosing family or school.

  • I play at long lifespan, but still, I wish I could have the possibility to play out those big wholesome families scenarios with children, grandchildren and maybe even grand grand children
  • I wish they adjusted the lifespans or gave us the option to customise them. I have often complained that normal lifespan feels too short for me whereas long is just too long. I play without mods and I like having a time restriction in my play compared to just aging up sims with a cake when I feel like it.

I completely agree with normal being too short and long being too long. That's why I have set the life span to the double of the normal aging through mccc. But unfortunately this is only possible with mods, so not an option for everyone.
  • I play with aging off. And if I normally played with aging on, I'd turn it off while on campus. Seasons will change anyway, but you like will not "be over" when you graduate ;)
  • I turn aging off if my sims go to university and live on campus. I play with the long life span as well.
  • Yeah, I've always felt the adult stages were a bit off, especially once they added the toddler lifestage, and now with university it feels even more unbalanced. It doesn't make sense to me to have 37 sim days represent ages 0 to 18-20 (baby through teenager, about 18 or 20 years) and then have 48 days for what I usually imagine as about ages 20 through 60 (40 years, so twice the length the pre-adult stages). That's 37 days for about 20 years but then 48 days for the next 40 years after that. By all rights, imo, young adult/adult should total twice the amount of time as baby through teen in order to be proportional, so young adult/adult together should be at least 74 days. Fortunately there's MCCC, and use that to make the young adult and adult stages proportional to my preferred specifications lol.

I just play on long lifespan. I find the normal lifespan too short. Especially when your playing rotations of different households.

I did long lifespan with my one household but i had her complete like 4 aspirations then got bored......If you have children etc on long lifespan- I feel the rest of the town goes so slowly......How do you handle it?

I used to play with normal lifespan but i find it too long, so now i play with short. It's perfect for me. But i don't have university. I intend to buy it but i think I'll need to age off during the course. I don't like the idea of having to play 3 more weeks (at least) so that my sims can take a degree. I would prefer if the duration of courses were aligned with lifespans.
  • Yep I agree too. And pets lifespan don't match the sims lifespan either. I have my games lifespan set to the longest. When I made my sims and her initial cat and dog, she was a young adult and the pets were kitten and puppy. My sim hasn't aged up yet from YA and my dog has already died of old age and the cat has been a elder (i cheated though and put the cat back to a adult).

Agreed as well; Sim life spans don't blend when you want a family or university. I play with MCCC and also often see sims get adopted out as kids or orphaned as teens because their parents died of old age. The game doesn't give sims enough time to be with their kids, and the elder life stage is especially bad, since it's so short.
