spellcaster sounds to me like an amalgamation of witch and wizard; lets someone play out their stories however they want because it's up to interpretation.
basically lets you consider them witches, warlocks, wizards, mages, sorcerers, sorceresses, druids, etc. It's like how you could interpret vampires as strigoi/upir, or mermaids as sirens, etc.
