Thank you so much for explaining this! How the developers thought I will never understand. I love the idea of lifestyles in sims, I hate the execution. For me, personally, hungry for love is what you are when you're looking for love while single and loving it means actually loving single life. This is what makes sense to me. You're not really "hungry for" something you already have (I'm not hungry for food when I've just eaten for instance) and I'm not necessarily "loving it" just because I have something.
Especially the single and loving it stirs up problems if your sim for instance have a romantic aspiration - they are looking for love, try to date and find a relationship, but any interaction that might lead to one gets them tense because they're breaking their lifestyle.
If I were a modder, and knew what I was doing (or better yet got someone at EA to change things in game) these two would be vastly different. Single and loving it would be connected to traits such as noncommittal, or to aspirations such as serial romantic. A sim might also getting it from rejecting advances, reacting negatively to romance. Hungry for love would be tied to romantic interactions, but perhaps even more to aspirations such as finding a soulmate, or just going on a lot of dates or using cupid's corner... basically anything that indicates that you are actively looking for a stable relationship. Once in one, it would go away, or be replaced by something more properly named that would be for someone in a stable and happy relationship - possibly tied to romantic satisfaction or things like living together, being engaged or being married.
But I'm not working for EA and I'm not a modder, so I will have to settle for cheats. (And you're right, the people person and close nit should be more complex too).

In the internal files Single and Lovin' It is often referred to as No Need for Romance LOL. Which is far more apt.
