I think one thing about the sentiments having autonomous actions might be related to the game engine itself. I mean, look at the issues with non-needs based autonomy in the Sims 4. Like NAPs. With the all or nothing approach, part of me wonders if sims might pee themselves or starve to death because they just have to go slap their enemy in the face when he jogs by a few houses away.
As far as the livestream goes, they were clearly playing with autonomy off. So even if Naoki wanted to go argue with Shigeru he couldn’t because SimGuruGraham didn’t direct him to. (Though for the record, I don’t think there is autonomy there. But it seems silly to complain about lack of autonomy when autonomy is off...)
