Live-in Workers?

So, I've recently started to add live-in servants and other workers to some of my richer households. I find this is a cool way to avoid single sim households, but I will also allow teens with just 2-3 years left of teenhood, to get a live-in job, in order to get away, or to build related skills. These houses don't always pay very well, but they offer a small apartment (sometimes to be shared) and the employed sim won't need to worry about everyday costs like bills and food.

This far I have a few Butlers, a Cook at the castle, Farm workers, Retirement home manager, and a few more. Each do of course require certain skills, but I don't request a set skill level, just that the applying sim has started the skill. Then if several candidates, the employer might compare skills, or they might agree that the employee will build so and so many skills while working.

Mayor restriction is that the employee can not build his/her own family while having this job, but hm... that's a nice challenge, and weird solutions may be found...

So - I wonder if others do this?

Is there a way you have of making them do their assigned 'chores' about the house? I created a Sim to be the Cook and she hardly ever lifts her finger … May just have to remove her to make more room in the family. :open_mouth: This was a failed experiment. LOL

I do micro manage each sim. I have a set daily schedule for them to follow, and I direct the Cook to prepare food in time for serving. Some meals she will prepare way in advance, depending on season as she also have chores in the garden. But basically, I don't think you can "program" live-in servants to do anything, unless there is a mod for it. These things are possible with the Vintage Glamour pack, that butler can be given chores. In my case it did not work well though, as my houses were charged for days they were not played (rotationally=problem).
  • In my Paradise Legacy, Poseidon and Amphitrite had twins. I just made a household of handmaids and warrior/guards and made a club for each. When Amphitrite needs help with the Palace, she gets her handmaids over, they garden clean etc and Poseidon has his club when he wants to workout and swim etc (a couple are mermaids like him). Saves on taking up household spots and less to manage. The handmaids have the loves outdoors and clean traits, to they do perfectly in the club gatherings. If you setup a club like this, just make sure to harvest your crops first, as the club members will keep what they harvest lol

I have a challenge with the bedroom baths, though, because with access to the bedrooms he will also use the teens' computers etc. I might need to arrange access to the bathrooms directly from the corridor, and keep the butler out of the bedrooms.

Providing access to the bath through the corridor sounds like a good idea. You could have 2 doors, one from the bedroom and one from the hallway (not sure if that’s what you meant).

I used to have an apartment with a desk area in the living room, and guests would come over and use it, which was rude and annoying, LOL. So, whenever my sim didn’t need the computer, I just turned the chair around the other way. Worked like a charm and also provided extra seating.

Yes, I meant the hallway. Those bathrooms already are next to the hallway, so no wall adjustments needed, only those extra doors. In the past I had a house with servants, and then the maid had access to all needed rooms via a rear side hallway that only she could access.

Turn of the chair sounds smart! Will not use it for this house because I like the teens to access the computer whenever they like (free will) so the chair must be there, but I'll keep the idea for future situations :)
  • My traditional Vampire Family has a live-in Servant: Igor (out of a long line of Igors)
  • Butler and Patchy help a lot. Sometimes if I need more help than that I'll hire a maid, gardener, and nanny especially with lots of pets and toddlers in the house as well as the robot helpers.
