Logic skill bugged?

My sim is a Scientist at level 5, he is only at logic skill level 3. When I direct him to read the skill book (volum 2), he reads but there is no skill building icon above his head, and the skill bar is not blinking yellow like they do when a skill is practiced.

When he learns some other skill, everything is normal.

I googled but only found there was a known problem with Logics back in 2011, that's not related to ts4. Anyone?

  • If he's only level 3, he should still read the first volume of the logic book.

Ah, bummer! I thought 1st vol book was for the 3 first skill levels, so I directed him to read vol 2. *smacks forehead*
    And thanks!
  • I was not aware how skills reading is quite different from TS3. Maybe it even is affected by aspirations/traits. Had him read Cooking, and after completing Vol 1, he had not even reached level 2. Even if he is a nerd brain and fast learner... It's a good thing those books can be reread and will still have affect, although it also means he did not read thoroughly on first time as he needs to read it several times to catch up with it all. Oh, those "fast learning" Scientists... :)
  • Unlike in previous games, sims in TS4 don't keep reading skill books forever. They autonomously stop once they get to the last page, just like with any regular book, regardless of whether or not they've already reached the highest skill level they can with that volume. If you want them to continue, you have to tell them to reread it.

But honestly, learning skills that way is a big waste of time. I'm actually surprised your sim is already at level 5 of the scientist career, but only at level 3 of the logic skill. Accompany him to work, use the science equipment at the lab, play some chess, and you'll get there much faster than by reading skill books.

Thanks, but this sim is just a distant character, not a sim I focus a lot on. Besides, he is very old, and will probably soon pass away...
