Lot Trait - Generic. What Do You Use It For?

It's a trait that you use for those times when none of the other lot traits seem to fit.

I've used it for churches/wedding venues and romantic gardens or as LaBlue0314 commented when nothing else quite fits. It can be useful if you want some privacy and don't want other sims to visit the lot.

I use it for my graveyard

As leetamme mentioned a graveyard, I have also used it Dave and Busters type establishment with a dance club added. I seen some use it for office space. If it’s multi-use then generic can be used. I wanna trying making a salon using a generic lot.

I usually go for national park if nothing else fits. The reason is the visitors. Sims only visit a generic lot when you tell them to. So I use generic only when I want no other Sims to show up. A garden or telescope for sims who live in an apartment or small house. Or a cemetery.

I've seen it on venues built with stages for performances.

I used a Generic lot as storage for my Collector Sim and placed a rocket, telescope and microscope there too. By putting all that stuff there, she avoided paying higher bills for having it all on her lot. In fact, she also had a 'faux' retail store where she actually lived. Her store/home ended up being quite luxurious, but her actual bills were only 32 simoleons a week. She successfully collected everything possible in the game at the time I was playing with her.

I've also used a Generic lot a couple times to build an art gallery and a photography studio for my Sims. The photography wasn't very valuable so wouldn't have contributed to the bills very much. But, my Sim didn't have the space to display them and I was doing a photography challenge at the time. Some of the paintings my other Sim wanted to keep around, perhaps to sell later, were expensive Masterpieces though that would've jacked up the bills for sure.

I haven't used Generic lots for anything else other than those two things. However, I can see how it would be cool to use them for a 'second' home or a vacation home for my Sims. :)

I have one 20x20 Generic lot that I use as a private garden for my playable Sims. It has normal quality plants from the base game and the Vampires pack. It also has a Grow Fruit tree and a Noxious Elderberry plant. The garden is set up so everything can be harvested right away. My Sims harvest what they need to plant at home.

The garden doesn't include any fancy plants that sell for a lot of money like Orchid, Dragon Fruit, or UFO. It does include a Death Flower because I gave up trying to get one from splicing.

I use Myshuno Meadows as a skilling lot. It's categorized as a Central Park so it very rarely gets a random visitor. My Sims go there to use the observatory and learn to play the piano and guitar. I added a computer, a chess table, and a woodworking table. The building is remodeled with nicer bathrooms and better lighting. I use one of the rooms upstairs room as a gym; the other room has a karaoke machine in it. My Sims can go there to read books or use workout equipment without being harassed by an unnecessary librarian or gym instructor.

I modified Myshuno Meadows so I could avoid using the Casbah Gallery which always generates a bartender or three plus several weirdoes who use the murals, easels, and woodworking tables. The Casbah also generates several homeless teens who go upstairs to use musical instruments. As an added bonus (/s), all of these new townies started to appear in my Sim's neighborhood and on every community lot and venue that they went to. I don't miss them.

The only time I've used Generic so far was on an unfinished house build. I have automatic population in neighbourhoods on and didn't want the game to move anyone in.
