The short answer to your question - is no, there's no clicking on the mailbox like in TS3 which was a super easy way to make friends. But there are ways to make friends in TS4. Please note below:

You can get the Incredibly Friendly Reward Trait. I find this to be the easiest way to make friends & it's very powerful reward trait. You get a major boost in relationship, sometimes it jumps you to friends immediately. Other times you need to perform 2-3 friendly interactions and you'll be friends/good friends in a very short time.

Also there's the modify relationship cheat. This cheat does make a friend for your Sim, but the target Sim does not recognize the 'friend' relationship. You usually have to perform it both ways.

Well the friendship is developing well but when I have my Sim initiate a romantic interaction the other sim isn't that receptive.

oh easy :) even with very low relationships stats if i turn on romantic music station i then have then site together next to radio and most times romance selections work. in fact i find its easier to have romantic interactions and high romantic stats vs friendships

i would imagine watching the romance channel together would also have the same effect

I can click the mail box and shift click and make friends actually...

Yeah I so wish that can work in real life and the money cheat too. LOL

The relationship cheats don't seem to ever work for me. The easiest, for me, has been to get the Friendly reward trait.

and @kay_blogs at first it didn't work for me either it took some figuring out... first you have to have testingcheats true on, or it won't work. after entering that you type in this, let's use jane doe and joe doe for example

you also have to then do it again with the names reversed, Joe first because the cheat only works one way. if you want them to be relationship instead of friendship type relationship

I did have testingcheats on. All of the other cheats I tried out (skills, grades, aspirations, jobs) seemed to work, but not this one. My family glitched once and lost all familial relationships, so I was trying to put parents and grandparents back together and the cheat just didn't want to work. I haven't tried it again since though and it's been a few months. I'll check it next time I play.

oh man that's a crazy awful glitch! :( yeah maybe try it, it has to be like exactly how it is if you lower case the m it doesn't work -_- it took me a few tries to actually get it working
