I actually wouldn’t mind some multiplayer functionality. I would still want the option to play in my own world, but it could be fun to collaborate on builds, have two players control sims in the neighbourhood simultaneously, or at least be able to visit your friends’ sims and so on. I would enjoy that. But it seems Sims players in general hate the idea so... I don’t think it’ll ever be a thing
I quite like how its done in Animal Crossing. You send a friend request and are able to have access to that friend's inventory which has items for sale. You can then purchase items you might need to complete a task. You don't even have to visit that friend's town unless you really want to.
I like it in Animal Crossing as well, but only because it’s fun to play minigames together and they designed the game in such a way that you can benefit. Like me warning others they can buy a genuine painting in my town (the guy who sells them comes once a week) or me being able to buy a silver rod or nice shoes (I don’t have a shoe store in my own town yet). I just don’t see how a Sims game could have a similar completion for this though.
