I think the issue is with the name of the skill. You can definitely gain and maintain fitness if you practice a sport, any sport, while bar tending and making nectar are different skills even though they both deal with bottles, and you can gain those skills only by practicing those particular activities. I prefer the different and separate skills, it's more realistic and gives sims more personality.
