I'm a very recent mod user! I used to think it was too complicated to bother with but then I took 3 seconds to read about it and I was like oh.... it's just that simple to download lol. I really appreciate mods that add traits and careers etc. because the sims really lacks flavor when it comes to creating multidimensional characters.
