(A habit I've carried over from Sims 3, it always seemed to make more sense to me to just start with a double bed than to have to switch to one later when they get older and start getting romantically involved).
The first double bed I ever had was after I got married. I had a toddler bed when a toddler and a single bed for the rest of my time in my parents' home. In my game I only give my YA/ or married Sims a double bed.
ETA:Oh, I take that back. I had two sisters who shared a double bed in one game save.
