More CPU cores?

I have a old i5 3570 and thinking about upgrading to a ryzen 2700 to afford larger households without simulation lag (i start to get lag after 12 sims). Will the upgrade help?

  • Honestly I'm not sure, Mine is a 4-core and it runs TS4 perfectly on ultra with all packs and 20GB of Mods/CC, but I also have 16GB of RAM and a decent graphics card installed too.

What is your household sizes? I say that because i'm more interested in a simulation lag free game and that is bound by the cpu.
  • Nevermind. I talked with some people on discord and one of them has a 2700x and had a 28 sim household before. I'm switching asap.

I don't think that will fix your problem much, it's just a CPU. What graphics card do you have?

GPU doesn't matter that much. One of the people i talked to about this has a gt 1030 and they can play on max with 16 sim households because they have a i5 8400. Sims 4 is 70% cpu dependent. Btw i have a rx 560.

i7 is much faster then i5. i7 is what most pc's come with Today.

Having more cores for one part does not necessarily speed up the game it just processes information more efficiently and there are other processes that come into play and also one needs an video card that will complement the CPU and vice versa in which bottlenecking is reduced if they are paired right. The i5 3570 is an older CPU and a GPU such as an 3000 series GPU may not be an effective pair as the CPU may not be able to keep up with GPU as the 3000 series is using newer tech so you would have to look for an GPU from that time period Imo. Yes it may help as the 2700 is using newer tech and it is 8 core but not easy to overclock as the 2700X as the 2700 was built to OC, I am pleased with my 2700X which I can OC.

It depends on what you plan on doing with the i7, playing on an i5 can suit an gamer who is not into crunching numbers or rocket science especially if you are not into tweaking or need to stay on budget.

Not really. As the other guy said, depends. Some i5 are better than many i7. The 3570 runs at 3.4 Mhz if i remember right, and can be overclocked to 3.8 (the one i had, i cant remember the exact model). Many i7, sure they have more cores, but the speed is way inferior, making an i5 better in games that requires more cpu than gpu. I know today its hard to find a game that requires more cpu than gpu, but some semi-old games do it. And those games are going to run better on the i5 than any i7. More doesnt mean faster in some cases. Its like using 16gb of RAM. Almost not a single game uses 16gb ram. And most of them perform even better with just 8gb.
