I'm just not on board with the baby update. Having the baby safely stashed in a bassinet where the parents can either grind Parenting skill and relationship or just age the kid up into a toddler so the fun can begin is more than enough for me.
I've mentioned elsewhere that childhood—and having my sims raise their own kids as opposed to just having fully-formed adults spring forth into the world from a creationist god in CAS—is functional in my games. I'm less interested in their interpersonal relationships and social interactions and letting them be kids and more interested in just cramming the skill-boost bonuses into them then aging up a sim who gives me more flexibility to play different ways with them when they're all grown up and have the whole world at their disposal.
